Just a quick question for those that know more than me......
Exiting Dunkirk last summer passport control scanned my finger prints but didn't need my helmet off. Would that mean i'm on the system, partly on, or maybe something else.

this appears to be on of those Schrödinger things where, sometimes you are and sometimes you aren't. The system seems to be set up with inspiration from the NHS where computers in one place do not always talk to those elsewhere. I suspect Fujitsu and Capita are involved.

You’ll find out one way or another, next time you enter the EU, assuming the system is running. It’s turned off quite often. At other times you queue, whilst some bloke from Barnsley stabs fruitlessly at a touchscreen or moans about having his fingerprints taken, as it is an infringement of his liberty.
One thing’s all but certain, you’ll be passing through the non-EU channels, alongside Chinese peasants and Nigerian swindlers. Such is our reduced global status.
I’ve had my fingerprints taken about 3 times now. I don’t think it actually works at Santander because mine failed 3 times then a bloke came over and tapped a card which cleared it then let me through
I've been in and out of Toulouse, Barcelona, Santander, Bilbao, Caen and Dieppe since they've been playing with the EES system... it's different every time... the only common theme... is the chaos... I think they decided, that rather than test it all properly before implementation... they said, bugger it, we'll test and fix the issues as we go along... even the staff are clueless most of the time... I have to say...our e-gates are far superior !

Newcastle to Amsterdam - They did the Four questions thing but there was no scanning of faces or fingerprints. Took a while longer but not the 2 hour ish delay I had feared.
When we arrived in Spain earlier this year (Gran Canaria) there were huge queues at the airport but got through quite quickly because none of the machines were working properly, told us to go to the manned booths, where we were just waved through - no passport inspection, no stamps, nothing.
Its full implementation has been postponed:

“In a significant climbdown by Brussels officials, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Italy and Switzerland are understood to have been given the green light to delay full implementation of EES to “maintain border fluidity”.”
