FOR ALL EES STUFF, QUESTIONS, CONCERNS, MOANS, JOYS AND ANYTHING ELSE

Just a quick question for those that know more than me......
Exiting Dunkirk last summer passport control scanned my finger prints but didn't need my helmet off. Would that mean i'm on the system, partly on, or maybe something else.

Cheers

who knows?

this appears to be on of those Schrödinger things where, sometimes you are and sometimes you aren't. The system seems to be set up with inspiration from the NHS where computers in one place do not always talk to those elsewhere. I suspect Fujitsu and Capita are involved.

Indeed, who knows.

You’ll find out one way or another, next time you enter the EU, assuming the system is running. It’s turned off quite often. At other times you queue, whilst some bloke from Barnsley stabs fruitlessly at a touchscreen or moans about having his fingerprints taken, as it is an infringement of his liberty.

One thing’s all but certain, you’ll be passing through the non-EU channels, alongside Chinese peasants and Nigerian swindlers. Such is our reduced global status.

I’ve had my fingerprints taken about 3 times now. I don’t think it actually works at Santander because mine failed 3 times then a bloke came over and tapped a card which cleared it then let me through

I've been in and out of Toulouse, Barcelona, Santander, Bilbao, Caen and Dieppe since they've been playing with the EES system... it's different every time... the only common theme... is the chaos... I think they decided, that rather than test it all properly before implementation... they said, bugger it, we'll test and fix the issues as we go along... even the staff are clueless most of the time... I have to say...our e-gates are far superior !

I didn’t realise that BMW had thought of it.

Newcastle to Amsterdam - They did the Four questions thing but there was no scanning of faces or fingerprints. Took a while longer but not the 2 hour ish delay I had feared.

When we arrived in Spain earlier this year (Gran Canaria) there were huge queues at the airport but got through quite quickly because none of the machines were working properly, told us to go to the manned booths, where we were just waved through - no passport inspection, no stamps, nothing.

Its full implementation has been postponed:

EU lets nine countries delay EES border checks even further

For those wondering:

“In a significant climbdown by Brussels officials, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Italy and Switzerland are understood to have been given the green light to delay full implementation of EES to “maintain border fluidity”.”

Coming out of Bilbao EES is active.

However, we arrived at the port at 11.30 and were in our cabin by 12.

Initial passport check at the BF booth, same as normal. Helmets on.

Waved through security, then to the containers with the scanners in, off the bike, helmet off, scan passport, photographed and fingerprints done. This is then manually approved by some one at a desk.

Back to the bike, manoeuvre around the same dithery old bastard on a badly parked Harley as on the way out, who was still faffing around the straight on the boat.

This was actually much better than the usual experience at Bilbao, which used to have no marshallling and a mass start for the bikes to get on the boat. This isn’t due to any efficiency’s from EES but rather to the fact there are now dozens of booths and dozens of staff.

And our fingerprints our now on the EU central database and available to law enforcement and god knows who else.

I predict a major data breach within a year of all of the details required to manufacture a fake ID.

EES menorca airport
Lord of machines and assistants to help
Lots of people would rather queue than use a free terminal!!
Never mind
Process simple and quick
Wifey had trouble getting fingerprints to get accepted
Still Less than a minute each to complete then thru second e passport readers and out to baggage reclaim where bags took 20 mins to appear
So now fully trapped in the system!

That is my fear. With all this data on various countries' computer systems, and the inevitability that it will be hacked, I worry that organised criminals will be able to swap my fingerprints for the next Pablo Escobar, and I will find myself being arrested and fitted up because "my" fingerprints have been found at a crime scene.

Let alone the ability for indentity theft by the minor Albanian and Romanian gangs who are pretty good at it already.

Yep. People get fooled by thinking that biometric data is incontrovertible, and it is. It's very hard to fake an iris scan or a fingerprint. But it's entirely doable to edit a database record so that your entirely innocent fingerprints become Mr Violent Master Criminal's fingerprints.

Nothing happening at Le Shuttle today.
10 second passport check and on our way.

In contrast to Dubrovnik airport two weeks ago where everyone was fingerprinted and photo’d

I think France are one of the 6 that are now delaying EES

I can see the headline in the Folkestone Thunderer now.

Not sure if this is relevant pòst or even of interest here. A friend of landed at Liverpool yesterday after another holiday in his Spanish home. He was pulled at immigration, taken to an office and asked if he realised he had exceeded his 90 days in the EU. He asked how long he had overstayed and was told “12 hours and you may be hearing more of this Sir” …

Meanwhile at Dover …

Why do uk border force care how long your friend has been abroad?
Meanwhile
Inbound menorca ees operates after a fashion
I registered but not asked for fingerprints
Wife was and after 5 mins trying to get machine to register hers the helpful attendant just waved her on to next check with me
Outbound quick trip thru for photo no prints or dates stamped
