FOR ALL EES STUFF, QUESTIONS, CONCERNS, MOANS, JOYS AND ANYTHING ELSE

Seem to be a bit inconsistent. It’s in full operation in all airports and Ports in Netherlands. The queues at both for non NL passport holders is huge coming in. At the ports they segregate cars upon entry

It sounds like the all powerful EUSSR underestimated the challenges of implementing a system across a Europe with umpteen sovereign jurisdictions, hundreds of ports, airports and road crossing points all at a time of soaring costs due to international events.

Who'd have thunk it?

Maybe they should send a delegation to Singapore for efficiency in getting an entry system working.

Even in Nepal it seems to work ok

I went through this system for the first time when going to Rome a couple of weeks ago for the Italy v England game. Queued up at the new machines, place the passport on the scanner - all good, then pose for the confirming photo - all good. The machine then asks you to place your right hand on the scanner to take your fingerprints, this is where it all went a bit Pete Tong as I only have 3.5 fingers! The machine didn't like it and kept asking me to place all four fingers on the scanner - sorry no can do so computer say no! :D

In the end I turned to a lady in uniform who was there to help and showed her my hand and she told me to just proceed to passport control and I was admitted without further issues.

When I entered NL at AMS recently (exiting the airport into NL) on a UK passport, the EES was working quickly and smoothly. As of last Wednesday, it is still not being used at the Schengen transfer border, so the usual long queue with all the other 'foreigners'.

Afternoon Everyone,
Has anyone experienced the delights of the EES process at port of Bilboa recently.
We're going to have to endure it in early June and I'm wondering how painful it's likely to be.
Going to be some very long queues I suspect...
Many thanks, Chris.

We left through Bilbao late last year and there was no sign at all of anyone doing anything to prepare for this. Bilbao, at least every time I’ve been there has been somewhat chaotic which suits me fine as I just ride round all the ditherers.

I’d be interested to find out about this and Santander though as we’re out again this year.

Went through Alicante airport last week, the EES took minutes after queuing for 10 mins to get to the machine.

if you look at various message boards on Fbook, Tripadvisor etc, people are reporting the same IT tantrums as caused Dover/Shuttle to turn off the system. Spanish officials have been doing the same when the computers sulk.
I imagine airports are better able to handle the system as they have needed complex IT systems for decades to manage the passengers and flights so this extra layer is not putting their systems and internet bandwidth under any stress.
The likes of Bilbao and Santander are probably still using Windows 95 and a 28k modem ...

Still a way off until June so it might be ok by then?

I’ll be going through Santander next week, so fingers crossed it’ll be fine.

Relax, it can’t be any worse than the new system at Bangkok airport for entering Thailand.

Arrived at Bilbao 10 days ago, process worked very well.took about 2 minutes in total, photograph and fingerprints taken at the booth where you show your passport. I was fortunate in that I was on deck 3 on the ferry,so first off.On the other hand arrived in Portsmouth tonight and it took one and a half hours to clear the port.

Why would they need to take your fingerprints and photo?

All seems very communist to me.
