For ALL Shit’Air Stickers, comments, questions and moans

I believe that the recent UK-EU deal includes a part that includes making exchange of driver details easier.

I'm still not sure why people get so hung up on avoiding the repercussions of illegal actions outside of the UK. If you don't want speeding fines etc then drive to the rules of the country you're in. If you get caught then you've had your fun so pony up.

Whist I agree with the above, what I don't agree with is the UK authorities not having the same access to foreign driver's contact details so they can't pursue them if they've been caught committing motoring offences here.

It seems again, one rule for us but a very different one for others.

Needs to be the same.

Given that anyone from abroad who drives in the uk will have to get a ferry or the tunnel back to the mainland, I wonder why there isn’t a fine collection arrangement at the ports.

Rock up for your ferry, aha, you’ve been done speeding, we have the photo, and the ANPR has alerted the port. That’ll be £100 / £200 / £300 depending, payable before boarding.

Sounds pretty simple to me.

It's because in the UK we go after the Registered Keeper and require their details whilst the European countries pursue the driver.

But would require some joined up thinking between national, regional and local government departments and an investment in infrastructure. We are not very good at this in the UK. Fines are all issued by local police and councils but you want Border Control, part of the Home Office, to collect. Nice contract for someone like Capita to completely fuck up, ending up with more cost than benefit.

We could, but like each foreign organisation chasing UK drivers, since Brexit we would need to negotiate with individual governments and pay their access fee. DVLA makes hundreds of grand selling our details to EU organisations not the millions it would take to set up the infrastructure you desire.

Then we should tell all countries who want access to our database but don't give us access to theirs to go F themselves.

and now the frogs have your name , address and vehicle and any outstanding fine , will come winging its' way to your door

They have that from when you cross the channel, without the need to apply for a shit air sticker, to be fair.
Also, what @wessie said above.

Pretty sure European vehicles do receive fines from the UK. I know a couple of people that got done.
In earlier years, Congestion Charge at least, was delivered all the way to Italian addresses for vehicles that failed to pay.

I've done the permit for my car for Brussels. Slightly confused process, but done online quickly.

I think you missed the point somewhat. Stamping you foot and demanding is not usually a successful negotiation technique.

The company that chases ULEZ has contracts across Europe especially with operators of private toll roads. The chased Portugal tolls until most were abandoned recently

Yep, fines for CC in Italy would come through a debt collection agency.
I didn’t know it was abandoned.

Had a friend that received a few back in the day.

So, if we've previously negotiated and they have access to our database but we don't have access to theirs then that's not in my opinion a fair or satisfactory outcome for us so we should tell them to FRO and block access to our database.

It seem that they adopt the Trump way of negotiating ie they get what they want and we don't.

Still not there are you? When we left the EU, the national reciprocal arrangement was torn up. Some organisations in the EU have since entered a commercial arrangements with the DVLA paying fees. They have to do this on an individual basis or sub it out to the ULEZ people mentioned above. Some have made the effort others have not.
There is nothing stopping each council, police force or court in the UK making the same arrangements on the same commercial basis. As erminio has pointed out at least one UK agency, London ULEZ has done this.
Collecting fines across borders is no longer a political matter post Brexit. It operates entirely within commerce.

Sad but true. Probably.
