Frame protection - my solution

That looks better, lose the holes at each end or use 'slots'

Slots, look better than holes...................the rest of the bike has slots not holes, so fits in

How about U shaped rubber clips to attach, instead of P clips.......to add some balance

Thanks - all good sensible input (so was "that's crap" ).

I`ve tried U clips before and they simply come off too easily - the P clamps do provide a better anchorage

Following JB`s valued inspired & intellectual positive input "Those look crap, just use tape" I have done a redesign. I`ve tried to completely change the design and incorporate some of the other suggestions like flanging it on the sides.

Not that I expect this design to please everyone but it does show that I do actually take everyone's opinions very seriously and try to act on them - as I said I ain`t too far up my own chuff to think I know best.

So, waddya fink of this alternative?

As an aside I did a sump guard for the F800, many many prototypes later, trying to incorporate such positive feedback like "Those look crap, just use tape" I finally got a brill design (thanks to all ) and spank me till I was red and rosy one of the lads said that the first design was brill - cheap & simple.





Anyway, at least thanks to JB I can offer two styles for Gizmo to choose from.

(by the way mate - thanks for offering but whatever you choose will be with my compliments as a thank you for bearing with me whilst I tried to come up with something for ya - mebbe just pay the postage eh?)

Just a thought mark but I think a longer better looking design than the original heal guard attached to the footpeg arm as per original would be more acceptable.

For me the ones you have made look like after thoughts albeit customer after thoughts. also if they replaced the originals the weight addition would be less.
just my two pennies worth.

PS all the other stuff you have made looks great.

My lord its a boot wear mark on the frame of the most famous adventure bike in the world.
That would be more of a badge of honor for me... Maybe some tin foil over the seat to protect it... Saran wrap over the front end to protect it from bugs.

Ha - I totally agree - you wanna see my panniers for starters however we must always respect the wishes of others and I must say I have seen some absolutely IMMACULATE GS`s with very proud owners who always get my respect

However a well beaten up GS always seems to have some sort of `well used` appeal!

The idea of using the P clips 'one up one down' was that P clips have a tendancy to rotate one way better than the other (think leading shoe brakes) By using the P clips, one each way round, this is not the case. Having that piece of stainless that's rotated, sticking out at 90 degrees from the frame, would not be desirable

Totally agree but I am limited on time - because of the rubber nitrile lining and the clamping pressure they cant accidently rotate - I see what you are saying, its the ideal solution but they really aren`t going anywhere.

Given time I will change it to have opposing clamps thanks

Hacksaw cut, 4mm aluminium, with holes for lightness and breathability, they come in shiney 'natural' aluminium, or can be 'brush coated in a hot room' in any colour.

Dont be silly. I use a felt pen and a good ruler for a realistic carbon effect finish.
