im sure this is something obvious and simple but im no mechanic. basically lifted the tank yesterday to fit battery leads and today when set off to work noticed my fuel gauge was down to 1 0r 2 bars when was half full day before. convinced my self it wasnt half full night before and was going mad but put fuel in on way home tonight and only took 15 to fill the tank and still only showing half on the gauge.

any suggestions anyone. have i dislodged something or by lifting the tank has the float got stuck or similar. all help appreciated.

Depends on how you lifted the tank. If you kept it level when moving it there is no reason to suspect stuck float.

Did you disconnect the electrical connector, if so then it's likely that when you reconnected then the connector pins have picked up a resistance. The pins can get a bit green with corrosion, so try disconnecting and reconnecting the tank electrical plug a few times, this might give you a better connection by clearing some of the corrosion. On that connector, the wires that control the fuel gauging are white/blue and yellow/violet together with the earth brown. The green/white and brown are used for the fuel pump.

i basically lifted i from back end and propped it up. would have been tilting to the front. i didnt disconnect anything but i am a bit rough so highly likely i may loosened a cable or too. where is the plug?

You might have pulled on the plug, it's located just forward and down from where the tank securing bolt is. Black connector with 4 wires.

it had come slightly out on the top corner and with a little push seemed to click in another mm and fuel gauge appears correct again. thanks guys hopefully thats all it was.
