I fitted a new fuel filter today to my 1150GS found it a bit tricky but got it done. Now my fuel light is stuck on. The fuel gauge seems to be working fine, any ideas on where I've went wrong and how to fix it?

Cheers

Mike.

Hi

Are you sure the fuel gauge is working, if the float is stuck it will register fuel but incorrectly this could also result in the fuel light staying on.

Suggest take the tank back off and check inside, make sure the float is free to move.

you'll have to take it out again and see what the problem is.

the float controls 2 circuits - one variable resistance track with the float movement that works the fuel level bars and then there's another on/off switch at the top of the float's travel that switches on the lamp. that is stuck on for some reason.

unless you've shorted the leads outside the tank somehow, then i would say the problem has to be with the float mechanism, specifically the lamp switch. not sure what though.

it's pretty obvious how it works when you have it out and can see it.

Another idea;
If the tank armature plate is mounted out of the correct position (one notch clockwise maybe?) the lamp would come on rather quickly....
