As some of you will already know, a number of reports have been submitted to VOSA, the government vehicle safety agency, detailing failure incidents involving the dreaded fuel pump controller on the 1200GS/GSA.
Following VOSA's involvement BMW UK consulted with BMW Germany who referred the matter to the BMW safety committee and discussions between the various bodies have been "ongoing" for more than six months. However I spoke today to the VOSA case officer dealing with this matter and his words were,
"Good news."
He said he couldn't go into it further, that the information is confidential until it was released.
I feel that last week's MCN exposé coupled with the follow-up that's likely to be in this week's issue has focused minds at BMW UK.
I might be optimistic and I do hope I am not being premature, but I am hoping BMW will do the right thing and recall all 1200GS and 1200GSA bikes from 2004 onwards to replace the FPC free-of-charge.
