Hi all,

I am looking at buying the Garmin Nuvi 300 or 350. I want to use it both in the car and on my bike. Has anyone any experience of these?? Anyone mounted on a bike? Was vibration an issue? I realise they aren't waterproof but i was thinking about taking off and putting in the tank bag if it rains (if i'm ever caught out in the rain :nenau !!) Is the Ram mount the best option or do Garmin do a powered mount??

Would appreciate your input

thanks

M

The nuvi isn't waterproof as you have mentioned and as far as i know ram are the only mounts available. Garmin don't do a mount for it.

I will also point out that garmin have recently released a nuvi 310 and 360 which have most features as the other 300 and 350 bar that they have traffic features and bluetooth.

Hope this helps a bit. :thumb

thanks...i have now bought one and will be also buying the Ram mount. I am curious if vibration will be a problem with the unit as its a "hard" drive and not on a memory card. I've emailed Garmin but am awaiting a reply.

Apologies if this question has been asked before but i did a search and come up with nothing.

thanks again

Mark

i have a 350 in the cars its great

but dont use it on the bike !!!!!!!!!!

back from touring france & andorra for two weeks,
i have a nuvi 350 mounted on a migsel mount attached to short ram arm.
i used the original back mounting from the car cradle and wired the car charger to power it. ram have a proper cradle in development soon to be available shortly.
it performed perfectly, the large screen can be read easily, very little vibration, with the migsel mount the nuvi is behind the screen and is protected from water, in heavey rain i would recommend putting it in a tank bag.
great piece of kit :thumb

Hi
accepting all points mentioned before .. whether you use a Migsel mount with RAM ball adaptor or a RAM handlebar mount kit, the RAM Nuvi cradle has now emerged and some pcs arrived last week, the part number is RAM-HOL-GA21

Anyone got a Nuvi compatible SD card with France on it that I can either buy or borrow. I'd be interested in getting one from somewhere for less than the £89 that Garmin want!!

Is it definitely a hard drive? I thought that it was solid state (as the Garmin guy at the motorshow said), and will probably chose sometthing else if I have to worry about killing the drive on the bike.

I was under the impression that it was flash memory, not hard disk?

To be honest, after using a Quest and a 2610 ram-mounted from the clutch reservoir (on an R1100s) - I've never had a wet unit.

I guess the Nuvi is an attractive car/bike unit, if you keep it dry.

Al :D

The Nuvi is definitely solid state. As long as you keep it in the dry, it would be great on a bike.

It looks as though the Mio 510 does exactly the same as the Nuvi, but at half the price (admittedly you need an SD card to put th eincluded maps on, but I have one).

Is this right, or am I missing something?
