Gear lever adjustment

I like the shift pedal higher than BMW suggest. However, I have adjusted the rod to raise the pedal as high as it will go and that is still lower than I would like it.

I could remove the rod and cut e.g. 5mm from each end, or I could just make my own shorter replacement. But even simpler than that would be to simply rotate the arm that fits onto the spline of the shift lever shaft by one tooth/spline. Normally a simple job, but looks like the Shift Assist gubbins is located there.

Can this be done or would it cause the arm to hit the main engine cases? Has anyone done this?

Well, without shift assist, it would be easy to rotate the arm by one tooth. But with shift assist it may be different.

Is the end of the lever mounted on an eccentric pivot. If it is you may be able to set it higher.

Yes it, but the offset is not large and in any case, I have it set back to shorten the 'length' of the pedal to where it doesn't hurt my toe. I have thought about making a different peg, but I'd prefer to be able to get the height adjustment I want without that.

I'm not entirely sure how the Shift Assist arm is attached to the splined shaft (I guess that shaft must be the same for SA or not). Normally the arm is clamped onto the spline, but the parts diagram seems to show just a screw into the centre of the shaft which doesn't explain how the arm is actually clamped to the shaft and just looking at it doesn't help any.

Just trying to gather as much info on this as possible before deciding the best course of action.

Personally I wouldn't mess with the shift assist rod.

Surely the options are, move the arm one notch on the spline, lower the footrests or fit a fully adjustable gear lever(many options).
