They often do it know. This is my second GS and the first one failed as well. Unfortunately this bike is a few weeks out of warranty. The problem has been getting gradually worse over the week ut this morning it didn't work at all for a while except to tell me I was in neutral when I was actully in first. Then over the journey into work the fault cleared. I know it will go wrong again tomorrow though. The biggesdt pain I remember from when the first bike had the fault is that I could not warm the bike on the stand while I put my gloves on as the bike thought it was in 4th AND SO WOULD CUT WHEN i RELEASED THE CLUTCH LEVER

Question is, does anbody know what the fix is and is it something I could do at home? Are replacement parts needed?

BTW I think the problem started when the bike jumped out of gear when cranked over giving it the berries in one of my favourite bends. Feckin' thing nearly had me off :spitfire

The 'fix' is a good squirt of WD40 followed by crossed fingers. Mine packed in after a jet wash but came back to life over the next few months. If all else fails then a new sensor is required which can, by all accounts, be fitted without taking the swinging arm off

Anywhere in particular I should direct the WD40?

Cheers :thumb2

Look at the wire going to the gearbox, sensor is on the end, a clean up might fix it:aidan
