Goldwing…….nearly

Not a problem one of the great things about bikes is there’s usually a bike for every taste.

I today rode my “full fat” wing from southern Yorkshire up to my gaff on the beach at Scotland.

5 hours of riding in extreme comfort. Had some work shite packed in the large top box to justify me billing the day and travel expenses.

True, I could have put it in bag strapped to the passenger seat of the bagger version, but I was quite happy with my setup.

When I fly over to the US to go riding with some mates in Texarse, I might pick up some of that traxxion stuff to bring back for my bike.

Whatever ride you like, enjoy the ride

I take your point.

I used to always remove the large top box on my 1600, preferring to use the very good BMW soft tail bag thing. Thst left me with a problem as to where to then keep it. In the end I just kept the top box on.

BMW missed a trick with the top box though. The side panniers are easy to take on an off, the power / connection to the central locking system simply realigning itself. The top box is more fiddly, requiring the removal of the rear seat, to connect (or disconnect) a power cable, each time the box is put on or removed. Why they didn’t get the power done in the same way as the panniers, I have no idea. The only guess I have is that maybe the box vibrates or shakes around too much?

Yes, its the same on my RT, I hate the 10 mins max wasted when I need to remove the top box.

Don’t need no stinkin’ topbox.

This trip was the first time I’ve used CarPlay so I had doubts about how I’d get on with it along with concerns about data usage since Apple Maps aren’t useable offline at the moment. I took the XT for comparison and as a sort of backup.
Ease of route creation and the big TFT screen make CarPlay the winner imo.

Can you reprogramme directions in google or Apple Maps whilst on the move? I know you can on the XT, but I thought it was disabled on CarPlay maps.
The only time I have ever ejected over the handlebars was while twatting with a Garmin.
I don't think the resting place on top of a Nissan could have been avoided, but my do things happen quickly after even the briefest glimpse down.

You can cancel your current route and select a new destination whilst moving. Sending a text containing your eta is neat.

I forgot to mention yesterday, but the haptic tap via an Apple Watch when approaching a turn is a great feature.

Aside from not being able to download maps, which is not a biggie in reality since route line and directions are still displayed on a white background if you’ve turned data off or loose signal.
My main issue is that when a waypoint/stop is missed Maps will only reroute to the missed stop and will not stop doing so - as far as I know. Much better to calculate a route back to rejoin original route but further along.

A good, level headed, sensible review of the Goldwing B. I subscribed to this chap when he had a RT (as I was considering one at the time)

I have tried Google for an answer to this;
When was Carplay added to the Goldwing, (model year) if anyone can confirm would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Best bet is fly to Los Angeles and ride it to Florida. That’ll give you an idea why the bike was designed so. I’m afraid the UK is not just big enough to get the best out of the bike.

I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that. I find it’s great in the UK as well as Europe.
