Greek islands and an old XT600

Super, should be great to ride about there this time of year. Enjoy!

You’ll be heading home as we set off for Greece! Have a great time (y)(y)

An easy journey from Gatwick, very helpful guy at the airport train station told me trains and connection details, €11 for a ticket to Corinth and €12 for a taxi to the hotel in Isthmia where the bike is due later today.
So, with nothing in particular to do, I came up with an idea of a way to enjoy the mid 20’s weather and a location by the sea.

Splendid, enjoy the beer.🍻 Oh, and the riding as well.👍

Riding is tomorrow, the truck has arrived and mine is first off in the morning
I tried the hotel bar, nice setting but a bit clinical so back to the nearby taverna for Greek salad, squid and wine. All with a nice setting. Welcome to Greece.IMG_0044.jpegIMG_0045.jpegIMG_0046.jpeg

The offloading has started, mine is at the back so off first. Got my bag of kit as well, all I need now is to get changed, get the keys and hope it starts.
Some interesting bike choices for Greece, one rather over sized BM trying to hide on the bottom row. I don’t think he’ll be taking many back roads

Looks a nice setup that and it looks full.

The bike started, a petrol station was close by so off I went. I’d decided a wee while back that I might need a hand navigating round Athens so I’d installed a Quadlock and updated the maps on an old sim free phone. I’m now very grateful that I did so.

An easy ride in perfect weather then a few km from Rafina Brenda said go right but a big sign said left. I went left and she never let me forget it. But, I had a great half hour winding down lanes through olive groves and backyards and ended up in Rafina. I went to the port to check ferry times and had a coffee then on to the room I’d booked, a mile from the port.

All good, wander back in for small lunch and I’ll be back for dinner.

Nice to be back in Greece and I’ve remembered the rule of the road. First, the Highway Code applies.
Second, if you sound your horn you get right of way.
Third, if you’re over 70 and shout Zorba! whilst gesticulating with both hands, you have top trumps and right of way is yours.
Once I remembered all that it was fine. I just sounded the horn and shouted Get it up you, I’m Scottish!
Ferry tomorrow, looking forward to the islands.IMG_0050.jpegIMG_0051.jpegIMG_0052.jpegIMG_0055.jpeg

Rafina is a nice small town/port east of Athens and much more pleasant than using Piraeus. If you’re heading to any islands it’s worth checking if you can go from Rafina, also a much easier journey from the airport if on foot.
Now on the ferry to Naxos, 5 minutes ride through an empty town from the room I had booked which was very comfortable for £40.
A Greek guy on a modern Transalp is parked behind me, nice guy. There aren’t many tourists around and certainly no foreign bikes seen as yet which makes it a nice time to come.IMG_0056.jpegIMG_0058.jpeg

It was about 27 yesterday afternoon, about 20 now at a guess, very pleasant

Peli case is great and a wide choice of sizes, I’m going to buy one for the Transalp
I’ve run a 12v feed into it so I can charge things while on the move
