Greek islands and an old XT600

I agree with the Pelican or Lomo case cause find top boxes very unattractive, but curious about quick release solutions? I’m assuming you just hard mount your’s on??
Mine is bolted on and wired but no reason you couldn’t do a quick release with internal releases

Put some fittings on mine Tom and use Rocstraps

It's bolted through the rear carrier with a aluminium plate between to give stability.

An easy journey from Gatwick, very helpful guy at the airport train station told me trains and connection details, €11 for a ticket to Corinth and €12 for a taxi to the hotel in Isthmia where the bike is due later today.
So, with nothing in particular to do, I came up with an idea of a way to enjoy the mid 20’s weather and a location by the sea.

Whaaaat? No grief? No cock ups, encounters with polis, bike glitches or other misdemeanours? What kinna ride report is this?

(The kind we'd all like!)

Enjoy! :beerjug

This is Naxos main town, fair sized place but it is a ferry hub for the Little Cyclades so lot of ferry traffic
Once you get out of town it’s very peaceful with some lovely wee places by beaches and hill towns. Plan to do a lap of the island later in the week before heading elsewhereIMG_0084.jpeg

I realise there is a lack of food photos so here’s lunch while waiting for a ferry.
Greek salad, a highlight of being here. That and goat are two things (amongst the many) I look forward to in Greece

As I mentioned in my first post, for nearly 20 years I’ve wanted to ride my bike off the Skopelitis onto Iraklia and today I have done just that. One happy man.
The Skopelitis is the lifeline of the islands it serves, operating all year round and bringing everything needed to sustain life and tourism.

I rode down the pier at 1300, departure was 1400 and watched perhaps 30 to 40 vans, trucks, cars and scooters arriving, reversing on or parking by the ramp and depositing boxes for different islands. Then a truck with building materials reversed on, plus 3 cars and a pickup and one minute before departure I was waved on into a wee corner. Much efficiency amid apparent bedlam.
I was met, guided to my room which overlooks the harbour and costs €40 a night. Then onto the post office where you can buy a cold time of beer and he will give you a glass if you want to drink it there. I’ve been doing just that for many years so I sat in one of my favourite spots on planet earth and enjoyed a cold, utterly peaceful beer. Or was it two?
Photo of myself today and one and the same spot a year ago. It’s a habit.
Wee taverna this evening, hopefully goat on the menu then tomorrow I will ride the roads of the island, all 5 km of them.
Contented man. It’s taken me a while but, after an imperfect year, it’s worth the wait.
