I did the BMW off road school in March a couple of years ago and nearly boiled! If I'd done the course on a hot summers day I would have!

so, what does the practical green laner wear these days?

I'm tempted by one of those Forcefield 'Action Shirts' and cover it with a cheap waterproof jacket if it's colder/wetter etc.

What does everyone else use on a hot(or even warm) day?

In Africa in October (temps of mid 25c to mid 35c) I wore:

SixSixOne Pressure Suit

with an MX Jersey over the top - very lightweight and made of an airtext type material so good ventialtion

MX Trousers like these

with seperate knee and shin protection - the trousers are pretty lightweight and again nicely ventilated but were strong enough to cope with a good few offs.

Was warm at times, but with adequate hydration it was fine, so certainly shouldn't be too warm for this country even on the hotest day :thumb

I'd like to get a Scott Enduro jacket to go over the top for colder days

+1 on this, though I got my 661 from the dirt bike show. Great bit of kit!

+1 on DBB, they are pretty good to deal with.

LOL, I wear that in the UK most of the year round.
I only go for a waterproof cordura jacket when it's freezing or absolutely pishing it down. Hard work keeps you warm anyhow.:augie

Trouser wise I opt for enduro trousers rather than MX, as they go over the boot which stops buckles hooking on undergrowth, stems the flow of water down boots and keeps the boots cleaner when it comes to taking them off. They also generally have zipped ventilation so you can maintain your temperature easier.

Cheap ex army goretex does the job fairly well tho....

After lots of experimentation including falling off lots of times (in the interests of scientific research) I use the following:

Forcefield Extreme Harness Adventure

This replaced an Alpine stars pressure suit which I found uncomfortable, and is good for multiple falls, some hard armour is recommended for replacement after a fall.

Asterix Cell Knee braces

I broke a tib and fib a couple of years ago in a twist fracture and have damaged both knees (climbing accidents) so this was worth the money to me - they prevent hyperextension which knee armour doesn't.

Sidi crossfire boots - comfortable and reasonable grip on the sole

Klim Dakar pants - over the boot

Klim Valdez parka

Both the Klim items stand a reasonable chance of protecting me on the ever-increasing road sections between lanes, most motocross gear is not abrasion resistant. The jacket has very good ventilation and I wore it in 28-30c in Morocco with no discomfort, and is waterproof.

BMW Rallye 2 gloves

Hard armour on the knuckles, very comfortable.

How do you manage with both bits of kit?

I've got Cross fires and some other knee braces, but I just find it doesnt all go together really well. I'm kind of surprised there isnt a boot out yet with some kind of intergration for knee braces - maybe one day...

It's no problem, fit the knee braces on correctly, then put the boots on - the lower part of the knee brace is inside the boot, just adjust the straps on the boots accordingly:thumb2

Very comfortable, I'm not at all aware of the knee braces during the ride.
