I’m thinking of getting some grip puppies as the GS grips are quite small in diameter, can you still feel the heated grips through them?

Also, I’ve seen it mentioned to use washing up liquid on the rubber grips to help the grip puppies slide on, does this not cause them to slip in use?

Yes - it will take a little longer to feel the heat but once up to temp no worries
No - use heat as well - I just put them in hot soapy water for a while and they slip on easily.

I use Grip Buddies from Nippy - just put a replacement pair on my 1200 after 6 years .
These are neoprene and stick together with tape and velcro

Thanks, are these worth the extra money over the grip puppies.

it's debateable if the Grip Puppies are worth a tenner more than the Chinese copies - I have used both and really can't tell the difference! I have a set of the Ebay specials on my R1200RS, fitted in 2016. They have just got to the point where they have gone a bit shiny and fraying at the edges.

I use grip puppies on all my bikes. Heated grips? No problem. Washing up liquid? Yes, but diluted. And don't forget, if you have to cut them to size, fit them with the cut edge inside. Missenden Flyer has a short video on fitting them and is worth a look. I had grip buddies on my GS when I bought it. Swapped them for puppies as buddies aren't as cushioned.

If you want an alternative to the foam grips, I’ve used some grippy heat shrink to tidy up the appearance of worn grips.

that won't increase the diameter of the grips by much, compared to the foam grips, which is why I and the OP want to use them.

I have tried grip puppies and I thought they were rubbish. I cut them off after a day and I would question the value of them to be honest. They are not an improvement. Just helpful advice - not a criticism.

depends on why you want them - probably not so effective to dampen vibrations but as a simple solution for those with arthritic joints to make the throttle grip, especially, a bit fatter. I have used them on every bike since 2015 and they make a difference to long distance comfort, especially when combined with the use of cruise control.

100% agree. Always one of the first mods I make on any new bike. For someone who suffers joint pain and stiffness, these certainly seem to help.

On a slightly more somber note, if you ever have to change original ones. It’s a black art with a heat gun removing or £200+ to replace fuckers!!

Does anyone know the torque settings for the hand protector bolts please for when I put them back on after fitting the grip puppies?

Grip puppies here too. I agree the standard diameter is too small for anything other than short journeys.

Heated grips work fine, just take a bit longer to warm up.

I use an airline to get mine on - takes approximately a second!
