Hi,

Different country, but am I the only one who have been chocked by the current trade in price on the GS?

I was offered ~2000 - 3000 euros less than what normally would be offered on a trade in on a GSA......

It's not the best time to PX.

Seasonally this a bad time any year unless a dealer is desperate for target bonus. Add the current economic climate and dealers are wanting rid of used stock or keeping stock values as low as possible until spring.

Then add in the fact that 1200GS are as common as muck (over 100 on Biketrader alone!) and you have an oversupply problem. Owners that change to another make by PX in a non BMW franchise won't get the same PX as at a BMW dealer. This then effects the resale values in general.

I would estimate an 05 1200GS has a PX value of around £4-£4,500 which is showing up as bikes retailing at aound £5-£5,500.

I was looking at trading up to a pre-reg / new / 2nd hand GSA last week - im not anymore!

Trade in prices for my 2006 GS1200 with 6000 miles, luggage, and minted were hovering around £4000!!!!

4 fecking grand!!!!!!!:blast

I know it's a bit of a trek, but Rainbow do seem to offer some of the better part-ex deals going.

They offered me £4350 but said clearly that they didn't want it!

And their sticker prices are high too! :blast

£4000 was the lowest i was offered and £6800 was the highest but that was against a fully mega specced new GSA with luggage, dynamic pack and heaps of other options.

:(

Times must be getting hard, or, you have a "common" bike, which many want to trade in. At the prices you're being offered even I'd be hard pressed to accept them.

Always consider the "cost to upgrade", not the trade-in offer.

I'd predict a fair bit of coming hardship amongst dealers, don't be in any great rush just yet. You might get a much better offer in a few months time when the effects of falling sales really hits the manufacturers and they start doing deals to attract buyers.

Many manufacturers refuse to discount, but offer 'incentives' instead such as luggage or accessories at no extra cost. I bet these type of offers will be on the table before too long.

It's an Oct 2007, with 26.000 km on it. It got ABS, and the other normal stuff.

I see the same as everyone else, 2nd hand bikes are sold at unreasonable high prices, and the prices for 2nd hand bikes are extremely low.

I need (want) a GSA 2007- instead, but as it looks right now I don't see how that will happen.

The two dealerships I went to on saturday had around 10 GS's (2005-) and 3 - 5 GSA's (2006-) standing which had been traded in for 2009 GSA's. I don't know if it's only in The Netherlands where BMW is giving the ABS,ASC,TPC package for ~285euro which have made a lot of people upgrade, but it's freaking annoying....

Mate's just got 7k for his 06 gs1200, 12700 mile's, against a new tiger....he's chuffed with the deal, it,s his 4th bmw and last (biggest heap of sh*t he's had the missfortune to own) his word's not mine but it has been crap.
Has another triumph from same dealer and reckons he's as good as Raininbow to deal with :nenau

Over to you BOB....

Not just BuMW and this trade in issue would cover cars, bikes and trucks no matter who the manufacturer.

No dealer at the moment really wants a PX but if they have to have one, they will only offer you the lowest figure they dare because they will have to stock it until the market gets better. Don`t automatically asume they are trying to rip you off because it really is tough in the motor trade.

As pukmeister says, keep an eye on the cost to upgrade price. You may find they will reduce the up front price of the bike to do the deal so the p/x price wouldn`t matter so much.:thumb

I demo'd the tiger there last year too..was,nt for me but got a better trade in offer on my GSA 1150 there than from AJ's :nenau

Terrible time to be looking to trade. No dealer in his right mind is going to want a showroom full of second hand bikes especially models like the 1200GS when most people who are in the market to buy a 12 these days want a GSA.

If Holland is the same as it is here at the moment then it really is a buyers market. Dealers needing to sell at all costs but not wanting stuff in PX and private sellers off loading toys as they need the cash. Unfortunatly with a bike to get rid of your going to get screwed by someone.

Well I just got £6k for my 55 plate GS with 11k on the clock, in need of 1st service and MOT. I'd consider that a fairly good deal, considering I'd of taken £6400 privately.

I think you've just got to look for the right dealer, BMW are notorious for stingy PX prices for a start. This was from P&H motorcycles in Crawley, probably a bit of a mission from you though :blast

That is just taking the pee m8,but, it makes the offer I had on my bike just one month ago looks good,I have a 05 1200gs,bog,bog standard, with just on 27k on the clock, they would have taken it in against a very, very mint 05 1150gsa, with only 1k miles on, yes only 1k,the offer on my bike was £4k,I would then have to find £3k if I wanted a deal.
Anyway, I'm now going to hang onto my bike and see if I can get it upto 100k miles:oonyack

I’ve been looking to trade up from my 06 GSA to the new 08 version for some time, but have actually got around recently to going to ‘talk deals’ with four dealerships recently……

…and I was struck by two things….

…one, the trade ins offered for my bike was well short of what I’d hoped!

…and two, the dealers as a whole didn’t really seemed bothered in selling me the new bike, or wanting the business…it was very much a case of ‘take it or leave it’

Now I’ll admit that I went looking this time of year to maybe get a good deal….but as I was told by one dealer….all the BMW dealers have all met there sales targets for the year (the one in question admitted they had met theirs in September) and weren’t really desperate for sales, and didn’t need to offer huge reductions, or offers to get the sale!

The other thing is the trade-ins being offered….now I thought BMW’s held their values…how wrong I was!!
When my GSA was a year old, I was told by the dealer I bought it from that they would offer me only £800 less in a trade in than what I paid for it….that impressed me!....but this was a time when the popularity out-stripped supply.

But now, a year and a half later, I’m being made to feel grateful for being offered more than £7,000!....that’s a four and a half grand loss in two and a half years…that’s about a 40% loss!!!........that’s not good residuals!!

As one dealer said…’it’s not that they are any less popular..there are just more of them out there!’

…and don’t get me started on high mileage issues!!....13,000 miles for a 2 ½ year old bike is NOT high mileage!!!

So overall I’ve been put off buying a new one…..and at least now I’ll wait and see how things are looking come April or May!...and whether their attitude has changed by then!!!
