GS trade in prices

There's a glut of 2nd hand 1200GS bikes out there in the showrooms - I was doing a search for a pal who wants an 1150RT and was surprised by the numbers of 12's sitting in showrooms gathering dust. Even the biggest dealers only have a limited amount of space to devote to a single model - this is why they're offering paltry tade-ins - they simply don't want any more.

Rainbow has been mentioned - they have 8 R1200GS's in stock and 3 GSA'a - thats a lot of cash to be sitting around at the fag end of the year.

Pidcocks (my local) have 9 GS's and ZERO GSA's

Balderston 11 + 1 GSA

I guess this is repeated all across the dealer network.

But now, a year and a half later, I’m being made to feel grateful for being offered more than £7,000!....that’s a four and a half grand loss in two and a half years…that’s about a 40% loss!!!........that’s not good residuals!!

Still better than what I lost on my Triumph Sprint ST when I switched to my GS. New price was €14.800 (with options), and I got €6.500 after 3 years.... and 57.000km...

…and don’t get me started on high mileage issues!!....13,000 miles for a 2 ½ year old bike is NOT high mileage!!!

... This is just the dealer having their cake and eating it

... Most bikes average 3-4K miles per year. That's the figure BMW dealers will use when buying.

... BMWs of all flavours and many GSs in particular have higher average mileages 5-7K is a figure I've heard and many do far more than that. Obviously the dealer will quote this, and higher, when selling.

... Can't blame them really. Having said that, my previous 12GS sold quickly off the dealer forecourt at 24 months old with 30K on the dial

Milage

3k per year the catalouges for gs's don't suggest that your suppposed to jump on your GS and ride around the world!, perhaps their relying on plenty of breakdowns to keeep milages low.

GS second hand prices

I have just (Sunday) bought a September 07 GS1200 from Vines and was very hapy with the price £7.4k (4.4k miles - full vario kit - ABS - Computer with oil warning - fender extender - frame bungs - hot hands - main dealer services etc.) and obviously pampered by the previous owner (loads of ACF50on the front engine cover). I had been monitoring the main sites (autotrader, MCN, ebay) and couldn't match it from either private sale or dealer. I was surprised as I'd only called in to kick tyres! Perhaps the previous owner was one of the unfortunates mentioned above? So I got the biuke I wanted at the price I wanted and by going the main dealer route it comes with 12 months tax and one year BMW warranty. Oh god! is there a catch? did I miss something, must check the build date. Is Friday the 13th unlucky in Germany?

Sounds like a Great Deal Welcome to our world!!:thumb2

I tend to take a contrary position about timing your new purchase. In my experience, my last 3 BMs have been bought around xmas / new year and have always found this a great time to push the boundaries of seasonal goodwill! This week purchased a 12GS, on 55 plate, in good nick for year and mileage with extras.
I found the value of my previous BM was upper end of fair, but to be honest, I dont care what the part ex value is, I'm only interested in the PRICE TO CHANGE. I know in my head what I will pay, and thats it; "deal or no deal"
With the present glut of 12GS models looking for a home, and with questionable quality control at the factory regarding finish of parts, my advice is go for it: push hard enough and the door will open. If not, try somewhere else!!!
macca and out.

Well I just got £6k for my 55 plate GS with 11k on the clock, in need of 1st service and MOT. I'd consider that a fairly good deal, considering I'd of taken £6400 privately.

I think you've just got to look for the right dealer, BMW are notorious for stingy PX prices for a start. This was from P&H motorcycles in Crawley, probably a bit of a mission from you though :blast

Nearly bought this one, when I went back in it was sold.
What did you trade it in for ? if you don't mind me asking.
