Gavin is now safe at home, I've just had a long conversation with him.
He was not as may be interpreted simply left out there, he stayed by his own choice with a friend of mine's family in Erfoud.

It seems he could have ridden back but chose to get the bike to a shipping agent in Casablanca who will transport the bike to his chosen destination in France, and the travel insurance flew him home.

Was it you who first said "go do one"? :D

You also did your best to organise a bit of an adventure, which will always be either too hard some or not quite their 'cup of tea'

Well why didn't he?

He was concerned that a dented header pipe would damage the engine. :nenau
Perhaps you will understand what I was up against

I know Gavin is home, No thanks to you bunch of cads! You left my wee brother in the middle of the African desert with a fracture, a broken bike and suffering badly from shock. It took his other brother who just happens to have connections out there, to get him home. When we did eventually find out about his plight. He hadn't a clue what was happening.
What kind of individuals are you exactly? who would leave a supposed, travelling companion on his own with no apparent means of moving himself or his bike, and injured to boot ? And yes, he did tell you to leave! which is probably exactly the irrational behaviour one would expect from someone in shock with no exit plan. I repeat, you are bunch of cads! Other words were considered, but I have some respect for the moderator.

And Tim, You may well be afraid of what you can do. Better start thinking of what I can do!

Gavin

As you may well know, Gavin was not left in the middle of the desert. He was with a family of well connected Moroccans in Erfoud. I really do fail to see what good any of us could have done by staying any longer. We were more than two days with him, believed him to be no longer in shock and making rational decisions.
He had a broken finger, 'his' decision at the time was to stay a while untill the finger began to heal, ride straight up the main road to Ceuta and into Spain.

It seems to be totally overlooked what I and others did do, both at the scene of the accident and later, and arranged to have done on his behalf.
Of course as his brother I understand your concern, you may know I had a long phone conversation with him yesterday and I was regularly updated by Aziz beforehand.

He told me the reason not to ride back was a slightly dented header pipe. The bike was ridden around 80km from the scene of the accident to Erfoud by one of us with no discernable problems, after I rode it to check it was safe to ride.

And when you are in contact with Ray S, remember that this is the man who, unprovoked, threatened your brother with violence earlier in the trip and who I had to have a 'word' with.

The main thing is that he is back safely and that is in part down to what 'was' done for him.

Tim

First; I'd like to say that my previous posting was contributed to and approved by Drew. Every one who knows about this think just the same as us!
What your cannot grasp is that YOU left him there with NO exit plan. Not one of you even considered staying behind to escort him up the road. This should have been part of the master plan in such an event. You knew fine that his bike is a running WRECK and Gavin has an injury that may or may not have hindered him. but he certainly would not have been insured! It takes about 6 weeks for a fracture to heal. I Know!! If it were not for Drew's contacts in Morocco, Gavin would still have been there. He was not acting rationally (As stated; He was suffering from delayed shock. I have an email to prove it!) and needed full guidance from this end.
I have raced the Isle of Man, been up the Rockies on snowmobiles as well as other 'full hardy' ventures and have NEVER EVER come across such a shocking act of disloyalty in all my life.

Hi Tim
I've only just come across the second half of this thread. Hmm...
Had no idea until now of Slippery Sam's input. I feel he may have picked up a few things the wrong way, especially the bit about the bike being a "running WRECK". It's not. But I guess he was concerned which is fair enough.

What does bother me though is this...

As you will remember, I fully planned to wait a few days after you left, then attempt to ride back. However, the damaged hand continued to give me problems. As you now know I recently had to have surgery. The left wrist also continued to be a bit of a problem, not healing as quickly as I would have liked, possibly because it was hard to rest it when the right one was in a cast. My brother then offered to help me get the bike out of Morocco so I gave it serious consideration. It was at this point that I found a big dent in the header pipe, not "slightly dented" as you say. Over a short distance I would not be bothered but with the long ride from S.E. Morocco to central Scotland to cover it did give some concern as to what effects back pressure might have. Maybe this wouldn't be an issue, I don't know. As can be seen it was a combination of factors including my brother's offer of help in getting the bike shipped which prompted me to go down this route. As you know I had fully intended removing the cast and riding home. Just thought I'd let you know I was disappointed by your comment above which I felt was a bit unfair. Hope this can be put behind us. By the way, I've just added some piccies to the other thread. :thumb

Not concerned enough to make an apology though :nenau
