Planning my next trip and i'm looking for places to go which are i little off track. Has anyone explored this area of Morocco? Recommended? Any pics you can post?

I've done bits around the edges. Oujda in the north east segment is a lovely friendly town that would do very well financially if the Algerian border was ever opened. I went through the Beni-Snassen mountains between Oujda and Berkane and whilst they were interesting I reckon the eastern Middle Atlas mountains south of Taza are better.
I wanted to go to Debdou in the Rekkam Plateau but haven't made it yet. Much of the middle is desolate and was the first day in Africa route for the various Dakar Rallies. It's fairly flat as you can see from the map but cross-crossed with stream beds. I understand it can be extremes of temperatures, very cold in winter, very hot in summer. Figuig (south east segment) is generally reckoned to be the hottest part of Morocco in the summer with temperatures of 50+c.
Jacques Gandini recommends a route from Ain Beni Mathar heading SSW (crossing to the east of Matarka) and coming out by Bel Ghiadia, then west towards Anoual but heading south before reaching Anoual towards Beni Tajjite.
Gandini's 'Premier Pistes' guide book (in French) ISBN 2-86410-446-6, see here, describes the route with GPS waypoints and photos of the interesting pre-historic rock carvings to be found along the route. The 'Premier Pistes' book is a selection of pistes across Morocco, Gandini also has dedicated volumes for each area and the one you would need for Eastern Morocco is Tome IV.
I intercepted the 2006 rally near Talsinnt (south west quarter of your map) after riding cross country from near Missour. Not difficult tracks but confusing in some places with many interceptions. Came across a feldspar mine in one place.
There are some ride reports on AdvRider, Eric DN and Kktos in particular. Use google with 'site:AdvRider.com rekkam' in the search argument.
