Has my cam chain tensioner stuck?

Hi, I've been out today after bringing the bike home on Saturday and I've noticed it had a rattle from the left cylinder around the tensioner area. Anyway, today is the first time I've given the bike a bit of a workout and I pulled up next to my dad after about 55 miles and the rattle had stopped.

Is it possible the tensioner was stuck, and getting the engine properly hot and some decent oil pressure has freed it off?

Should I A: leave well alone or B: strip it out and see if it's the modified one and either clean/replace it?
 
See what size the nut is on the tensioner.
From memory old style 17mm new style 15mm
The old ones used to drain down, and take a few seconds to re fill

Will do, cheers. Must have missed that nugget of information! Tried starting it up from cold a bit ago, it rattles for a fraction of a second and then stops. Seems to be working now whichever one it is!
 
Right, it's not the camchain tensioner. The rattle returned today and after some poking around a day listening with a screwdriver I discovered if I touch the throttle cable cam on the engine side of the throttle body the rattle stops. I presume the butterfly spindle is worn. I've had a look round the forum and Google but can't seem to find anyone in the UK who sells rebuild kits, or better still will refurbish them?

Any ideas, have I missed something?


Edit: I've found the kit on Moto Bins website, but does anyone refurb the bodies?

Steve scrim has retired, I have bought a lot of his tooling and spares for the engine and transmission repairs.
I will be able to do the throttle bodies no prob if you are in no rush as I have to finish off a couple of engine builds for some custom builders first,
And about a dozen gearboxes for reconditioning
 
I've just had the body off and there's a lot of play when it's at rest, but as soon as the throttle opens the play seems to disappear, so I guess it won't be sucking air in and running lean. How much, mikeyboy, and when do you think you'd have time to do it? I'm not in a rush but things like this niggle away at me until I've fixed them 😠

ahhh thanks , I didn't know that Mickey, used him for my gearbox and bevel box overhaul a few years ago. Top bloke.
If I hadn't had my box done then, I would have been knocking on your door for one of those new ratio boxes recently discussed.:cool:

Just fit a 'ticker killer' from Motorworks, they do the job just fine
 
The ticker killer is only for the R/H side, weirdly the right side is fine, but the left is rattling about like mad. I have stopped the chattering by slackening the throttle cable to the L/H throttle body. There was zero slack in it and the the throttle pulley was tapping against the stop.
