R1150gs. The RHS indicator randomly comes on and off - you can stop it with the cancel button and while thats pressed in, it stops, but then may or may not start again straight away. It's quite random and is very annoying.

I'm guessing a relay is knackered or summat. Any thoughts? Cheers.

My '04 1200 has just started doing the same thing. Can go ages and nothing then last night did it every few seconds and doesn't always cancel unless you hit the LHS indicator button then cancel 8-?

I'd guess at a local (to the switch) short-circuit. Probably the contact in the switch bridging caused by vibrations.

In my simple understanding of a relay, I'd expect it to affect both indicators and not just one if it were the culprit. :nenau

The good news is that being an 1150, the cure is probably much more simply achieved than with a 1200.

Being the switch, should I be stripping down the handlebar bit then do you think?

Only if you really have to, yonks since i have done that. Try dousing the switch gear in wd40. Check/swap fuse/relay and clean connector before looking to take the switch apart.

Oh and have a look at the bulb whilst you there to see if connection in the indicator housing is dirty.

Sorry can't be more specific bikes not here atm, however eliminate the easy stuff first.

The cure is identical, as the affected parts are (almost) identical.

The 1200 is arguably simpler than the 1150 as it has fewer wires running all over the place.....

Sorry to post and run likje that!

Thanks for the replies - I've tried WD40ing to no avail yet. Will try and really get in there at the weekend I think. Bloody annoying!

Had some wierd intermittent stuff happening with my 1100 - flashing at double speed. Everthing pointed to a bad connection but I couldn't find any. Finally swapped the relay and no issues since. Motorworks 2nd hand part was £20 (new is around £55!).
I can't be certain the relay was the problem but......

Mine done that. Swapped the load relief relay and hey presto, no problem.

Don't know why and didn't bother asking:thumb2

It took a day for the WD40 to penetrate and work it's magic but it DID work.

:) thanks all.

probably my last post in here as the GS is going in the next few days to be replaced with a K12s. Can't wait!
