Heated Grips

The problem is that the description in the brochures etc. simply states "heated grips". It doesn't specifically state that their purpose is to keep the riders hands warm in cold weather. So, as they're grips and they heat up, they meet their description

What about the claim "unstoppable" ? by bmws

Smear your hands in 'Petroleum Jelly' set light to it and ride along with warm hands, simples :D

Heated grips

Felt grips on my 14 1200 lc were not as good as my 2002 RT1150 , so bought second hand 07 guards which have the higher, fuller cover than standard, then set about fitting plastic underneath and to the inside top. Can now feel the heat on setting two as the wind chill is not drawing the heat away as with the standard guards Pity am not able to put pics on here, but if anyone who wants to see and share the pics they are welcome as long as they use whatsapp,am happy to forward pics . The difference is vastly improved, not fussed about appearance
as I can now ride without gloves if I wish.

P.S. Guess i need a young'en to show me how to put deal with sizing pics and putting them on this site. 07711666638

I had these issues with my 2013 GS.
I went back to the dealers and the grips were replaced, no difference.
They advised a different way to use them, no difference
They flashed the software, no difference.
I bought some heated gloves, Excellent, toasty, but not a real solutions.
But now the heated grips on my GS work perfectly, summer gloves all year round.
The solution while a bit extreme has resolved the problem 100%

I traded my 2013 GS for a 2016 GSA.

Seems that the grips issue is something to do with the software allowing to little currant to flow to the grips preventing them from heating as they should, this does not seem to be addressed by BMW as a retro repair, but the new models work just fine.

First LC bikes resulted in the deaths of a couple of journalists, BMW denied an issue but miraculously it became a standard fitment the following year. This is how they deal with potential life threatening components no wonder they couldn't give a shit about something as trivial as heated grips that aren't fit for purpose.

I read that Kevin Ash was riding rough ground stood up none handed with the cruise control switched on.

I had an early TL1000S (pre steering damper mod) and spent an afternoon trying my hardest to get it to shake it's head.

I am ashamed of the steering damper on my GS ... almost as gay as heated grips.

If he was riding on rough ground and had the bike in enduro mode then the cruise control is switched off by default.

Maybe he had it in another mode so he could act the clown? Riding on a loose surface & tank slappers just doesn't make sense to me .. just shit riders looking to blame someone for their crap riding.

My early 2014 GS has quite adequate heated grips.

As are mine! :thumby:

Of the 3 1200s I've had .. too hot, too cold & this one's just right as I wear the correct gloves for the conditions.

Just to clear a point up, the 2015 grips DO work on the 14 bikes. Mine have been fitted for a year now and have not caused any problems so far despite all the claims from BMW customer services that they do not work.

I managed to get mine changed but BMW then refused to change any more as they claim that there is nothing wrong with them and they work as they are designed to despite many unhappy customers.:beerjug:

Sorry to bring up an old topic but seems the best place - AKAIK the improved (much hotter) grips came in on the August 2015 onwards model year, or bikes delivered maybe Sep '15 onwards - does anyone know if you can tell for sure if they are fitted from the VIN rather than just going by the registration date?

My dealer has stated that the updated grips from 2015/16 cannot be retrofitted to the 2013/14, something to do with different resistance and the Canbus not being compatible.
I don't want to spend over £14k on a bike and fit £60 Oxford grips with a big handlebar control when I've already paid way over that for integrated grips that are not fit for purpose. BMW Customer Service declared it is not a fault or issue as they've never heard of this and it must be a 'personal' problem. He also said if it was an issue then BMW would have issued a recall for the problem, I said no they wouldn't, they would make a commercial decision on which cost the least- recalls or deny and settle the odd one here and there and they would stick to this. Most of these bikes are coming up to their warranty period and the problem will then disappear. BMW CC said they were sorry I felt like that but that was not their policy, I asked him if he wanted to discuss steering dampers and potential safety recalls but he didn't.

Ok lets get some bike info what model & what year exactly are you taking K25 TC or K50 LC

The K50 Grips cover from gs 2011 - 2020 & 2012 - 202 GSA

+ other years depending on options

The K25 units cover 2006 - 2014

Again depending on options

But neither will work with each other ie K25 bike needs K25 grips K50 bike K50 grips

The K25 Hexhead & TC work on P1 -= Warm P2 Hot

The K50 units work on P1_ = Thermonuclear war P2 = Global Armageddon

Not totally correct.

Early K50 LC 2013-2014 grips are totally useless. Late 2014 on wards are as per your post.
My 2014 LC has the early useless grips which I keep thinking about changing to 2015 version as Im sure they will work correctly.
