Heated hand grips

keeping you waiting aren't they ? just as well its not a spare part to get your bike working again …a month to get something in stock ???

I'll have a full update for you in a couple of weeks hopefully!

I see the part number for the heated grips description is 5.5 ohm from 08/14. But there is 2 part numbers, up to 08/14 and from 08/14. We'll see, maybe I need to speak to a different dealer. This one is a bit full of it.

my numbers in post 516 are the numbers which have the 5.5 ohms and work with my accessories which are the GPS Prep

Allan Jefferies checked mine out last week whilst changing the leaking front brake master cylinder lid and seal, plus completing the right hand switchgear replacement recall.

Surprise, surprise they were "working to spec", to which I said the spec is clearly wrong then as they don't work like the previous models, so they don't keep my hands warm and they admitted they'd had numerous other complaints.

They also tried to brush me off with the tale that the 2015 grips won't fit, but were a bit lost for words when I mentioned that the wiring loom and ECU parts numbers were the same, so they should plug in and work unless there's a firmware issue.

They were going to go back to BMW and try to order some 2015 grips to see if this would resolve my displeasure at paying £250 for something which isn't fit for purpose once the temperature drops I to single figures.....I'm still waiting for a call

That's telling them... since multiple people are waiting for the 15 grips from the Fatherland.. I think BMW is hoping people will forget when summer comes!!

Just to be clear the uprated grips cannot be retro fitted to early MY 2013 bikes like mine?

That said i resigned myself to this fact ages ago. Still a pisser though.

Had my dealer install the part number grips that Bikerboy108 had put on Saturday. Rode into work today, 34°F outside, and now know how heated grips are supposed to work! I had on my BMW Motorsports Winter gloves and had to turn the switch to low they were so hot. The low setting is warmer than the high setting with the old grips. Very happy with the outcome.

So now you have heated grips that are too hot to use on the lowest setting when the air temperature is close to freezing. That sounds like a real step forwards:blast I can just imagine the complaints if BMW had shipped all the bikes like that.

He didn't say they were too hot on the lowest setting, they are as warm as the earlier ones on the highest setting which in fact is just warm. On the highest setting the later grips get hot, which when the ambient temp. is cold, together with the wind chill factor will make the hottest setting feel like they are actually doing what they should, which is keep your hands warm.

Precisely :)

At Last, updated heated grips fitted, today was not the best day to try them as it is warm but they are FAR BETTER than the early model. Had to switch them off full heat as they too hot !!! better not complain or BMW might want them back as according to them they will not work on my bike !!!!

This should put an end to all the bullshit from BMW customer service. The later grips DO WORK on the earlier pre Aug 14 bikes without any problems with the ECU and they are a lot better than the earlier grips by far, they WORK as they should.

thats great news , so to clarify ..you had 2015 grips fitted straight to the wiring loom of the 2014 model ? no charge from BMW ? go get em boys

March 2014 GSA fitted with later 2015 grips, many thanks to Pidcocks for sorting out this problem which they seem to have off their own back without any support from BMW.

I think this now proves that BMW customer services are full of bullshit after all the different stories about why the original grips do not work and that the later grips would NOT work.

I hope that they get all the shit they deserve, they have give me plenty.

I have already winged an email to my dealer updating them with this great news.
I am sure there are a lot of others going to be doing the same.
I can't wait to hear the corporate reply!!
