Is this the one to go for?
Mostly to be used for landscape stuff when travelling on the bike and Videos of the Grandson

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 Digital Camera - Red

They are too small all those little Lumix things - buy an S90, (canon), - it has got great functionality

unless you like the following:

PS - My daughter has just bought an ZX1, and she thinks that it is great - not bad but too small for my fingers

I've been using one for about 6 months now & its far ahead of the Fuji 12mp one it replaced.
Its a bit bigger/heavier that the fuji's or sony compacts, but the lens is larger and allows shooting in much lower light - you can hand hold a flood lit scene and on auto it just sorts it all out. The lens is also wide angle so you don't have to keep walking back to frame things.
HD video is quite good but will never replace a full size video camera.

Just picked one up from Dixons Tax Free - good bit of kit!

Forgot to mention - hopefully yours was bought for a good price, but around easter last year I was in Bankok airport, I made my way to the duty/tax free shops and was looking for a Sony compact, a new model with around 12mp.

Bearing in mind this airport is a major hub for international passengers - so I was expecting a really good deal - good job I checked online with Argos first, £42.00 cheaper in UK at Argos, so I left it in the shop!:rob

Good camera and brilliant zoom, but don't drop it. I bought one for a bike trip in South Africa (wild life and all that) - dropped it into soft mud on the 4th day at Rorke's Drift (it was either that or drop the bike). It was outside of warranty of course, so it cost me £145 to get it sorted.

The TZ10 comes out tomorrow have a look at that on Amazon

How about one of these?

Panasonic lumix dmc-fz38

They have good reviews, anyone got one?

I bought a Lumix FX33 a couple of years back and have been very impressed. Screen can be seen in bright conditions (wife's Olympus is crap here), zoom is good, menu system is straight forward and, most important, the images are very good indeed. Almost never used my Nikon DSLR since.

Last autumn went walking in Cumbria for a week. Camera in bag on rucksack belt and did not notice it was in a puddle when taking sack off. Wet camera worked perfectly but some funny colours on viewing screen so a month later bought a Lumix TZ6 based on some superb write ups and my FX33 experience.

The TZ6 is even better. Does everything the FX33 did but with much bigger optical zoom, higher res pics and a usable video mode. Downside is a bigger body but works with my big mitts and still fits in pocket.

Incidentally, after a couple of months the FX33 screen dried out so it did not suffer at all from it's night in a dirty puddle.

I'm chuffed with my Lumix - took this in Sheffield - hand held using the nightime setup - not front cover stuff but pretty good for a snap

tz7,
lovely camera, best little un iv had,
night time modes and starry night settings actually work properly, and the focusing is great

I've got a TZ10 on order, due any day now.

Pretty much as per TZ7 but with improved anti shake (OIS to Panasonic) all the manual modes that were the only thing that was really missing from the TZ7 and just as a bonus it has GPS built in to Geotag all your pics so no more arguments about where the pic was taken. Oh, and an "improved" price as well. Mine's just over £300, so if the TZ7 floats your boat you should be able to get some cracking deals on that now.

If you're not zooming and not videoing much the LX3 is still the best. Bright lens, large sensor and anti-shake is a winning combination. :thumb2

Agree with you on the zooooming Snoops, the LX3 is a crackin' camera better suited for landscapes, people, parties and motorcycling in general, but the video is terrific I think.... better than my bloody Sony cam corder in reality :thumb

Wow, amazing video quality !!!!

And I think it's just convinced me to take more memory cards on my next trip so that I can do video in preference to stills. The pan on that shot across the valley really conveys what it's like to be there. Amazing from a pocket camera :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

I'm with Snoopy and Micky

Got a Lumix LX3 and dead chuffed with it. It was a choice between that and the Canon G9 but the G9's quite a chunky camera so got the lx3 as it really does fit in your pocket.

Cheers

Duncan

The only problem is that you can't zoom in and out while videoing as you can with a dedicated camcorder :(

But the quality and and clarity are very good, certainly good enough for an amateur like me
