HELP !!

HELP !!! Techies
Yes, I need your help, anybody, somebody HEPL ME !!

The Tuareg I have runs a ROTAX 562cc motor, like CCM and KTM did before.
Today, My last bit of work was to do the plug,filter, oil and CAMBELT.(Preventative maintenance, As I do not know the bikes history and last cambelt receipt was December 1999)
Not knowing much is often a dangerous thing, I proudly removed the old one and put the new in..... I know nothing of marks and settings, then re-assembled it,and tried to start it.... no go!
Spoke to Tarka who had one a long time ago, he cannot remember.... where the pulleys have to be.
Now, I have disassembled again and found said 2 marks on the two pulleys, but don't know what to do with them.....

ie. Where do the marks on the pulleys have to be??
Horisontal, Vertical, facing each other, or facing away from each other ?

I do not want money (YET) Just your knowlege please.

Heh heh,I told you to mark it all before removing the belt.... :P
 
It should be possible to work out the rough position from the TDC of the compression stroke and the position of the cams (opening/closing the valves). Then it should be easy to see exactly where the marks on the pulleys should be.

Clearly I did not hear you Tarka, or did not listen, Or else I sure would have done it.

I am the guy who even lays the nuts and bolts I take off in a straight line so as not to cock it up in reverse.

Still stuffed aint I??
 
Yeah, shouldna be that tricky. Get it to TDC, both valves should be fully shut. The marks have either got to point together, to a fixed point or surface, or both straight up down etc. I would guess there is only going to be one working scenario........

Turn it over by hand with no plug to check through 360 degrees and Roberts your father's brother.

Grizz, if you need any info on your Rotax engine,just fire away, I spent about 15 years working on those engines so may be able to help.
I can detail the belt change info if you've not found it elsewhere already.
