My advice is to go to a BMW Garage and to be seen by a proper mechanic:thumb

What year 1150 is it?

Servo assisted or not?

Battery may be shagged or in need of a charge, or a run out.

Ref. clutch level, if it don't slip, don't fret. If topping up just keep it within the sight glass.

Happy new year mate. Don't fret too much, there is always depressing stuff here. But in (my) reality it ain't all bad. 36000 ON MINE & RUNNING FINE.

Update after doing a search http://gsshop.co.uk/ look at this.

first of all hi

just make sure the fluid is in the sight glass but check the bleed valve (brake side towards the rear footrest ) see if it is weeping there also check the clutch slave cylinder for weeping fluid

for the abs check the reset threads on here for the reset method

the fault is sometimes caused by low batt voltage

everything can be fixed:beerjug::hide

thanks for all the kind & wise words

the batterys has just been changed i have been told

ill top the clutch and get it checked after n year

i just hate letting my self get done by a nice old guy and his misses

overal the bikes cool thanks again

have a good one:beer::beer::beer::beer:

even if the battery has been changed all it takes is several starts in quick succession and it drops the battery below the voltage for the abs to set i have even had my abs trip out at a junction (lights on brake light heated grips all on) to long ticking over and the abs sensed a voltage drop and faulted. also sometimes the rear light blub can trip the abs:beerjug:

+1 on above.

Welcome to the site! You've got what is possibly the best all round bike ever built:thumb2

Check that the brake lamp filament is OK and illuminating when brake levers are operated.

Check that the abs sensors and wheel rings are clear of mud or other debris.

If the battery is a bit low and the bike starts with an ABS fault light, running the engine on a high tickover for a few minutes and then switch off and immediately re-start will often clear it.

Read the manual regarding residual braking if you have a servo system. (With the ignition on but the engine not running operate the brakes from either lever, if you get a high pitch whine that is the servo motor running).

Residual brakes are far less effective than full operation so take care

Code:

The word UNDERSTATEMENT does not begin to cover the above phrase:augie

is this to tell if the servo works or if there is one its a 51 does not seem to say in manual

If you've got one it will tell you if it's working. Someone with more product knowledge than I will be along shortly to confirm whether you should have one.

The later bikes all had a servo if you specified ABS but I'm not certain for that year. At least one thread on Advrider.com says 2001 is pre-servo but I would not like to say that was definitive.

cheers mate
followed that line so if its got one it aint working

Servos's

"003 was the year of this stupid arraingement, 2001 has no sevo cos I've got one and is not servoed.

fatgser,
its worth noting that the clutch fluid level rises as the clutch plates wear, (opposite to the brake fluid reservoir!!!) so I believe the fluid level in the reservoir should be somewhere near the minimum level mark as a starting point.
I expect someone will be along to confirm this soon........;)

okay here goes
tried the reset method from thread (earthing abs on diagnostic connector under seat)
ABS IS NOW WORKING:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

topped up clutch res. noticed tiny leak/seap around pot/res??? is there no seal /gasket around it??

had another few miles on her after the abs working :):):) its all clicked love it more already:thumb:thumb

what makes it even better is all the help advice and occ piss taking from you guys:thumb:thumb

happy new year :beerjug:
