Hexhead Alternator rewind

Well the 'experts' I asked all said they don't fit. I spent hours searching online and got nowhere, so I just tried fitting the RT one,
Check my post on here as well.....no-one said to just fit an RT one. James Sherlock said they don't fit, btw, they said they have never heard of them being compatible....
Not in their interest to educate people

Hi PB, can I ask you to double check? Its hard to see as access is tight, about 150mm from the end plug, (on mine) there is a taped up joint, you should see 2 wires going from the bike side, into this joint. I had to remove some wiring cloth, and found the small black Bosch connector, this has a slot inside so it only fits into the alty one way. Of the 2 wires, only one is used! Look into the Bosch alty and you will see just one pin, for the blue wire. The Denso wiring loom plugs directly into the Bosch connector, I think the Denso was a stopgap fitting, it has a 4 pin connector when only one does anything!

When I tested the noisy Denso alty, it was still working well, making over 15V, which is really the upper end of whats good! I thought swapping the alty would see this drop, but the Bosch one is exactly the same! Didn't change one tiny bit! Still seems high to me, but its running well :thumby:

Thanks I was on it tonight, no hidden plug . Anyway
Last night I bought the plug from eBay, who knows what quality and when it will turn up coming from Bulgaria.
So this morning I stop off at my sisters house , yesterday she’d had a mobile mechanic there working on her Audi suspension, rear brakes etc.
On the ground next to the car there was the Bosch plug with some wires!
So it seems like the required plug is on Audi brake wear sensors unless it was randomly dropped by the mechanic.
Left me with mixed emotions, good that I could do the wiring tonight, bad as I wasted money😂

Can you send a pic of the connector end? Be worth knowing about :D

Sorry back together and buried!

I’d like to thank the forumers who have posted accurate information on here especially the gentleman that took the time to collate the pulley alternator information. Old red was repaired for £150 after finding a RT Bosch on eBay
To the dealers who asked me nearly new bmw money for a scabby lump of junk , told me nothing else would fit or tried to scare me into selling it for scrap, well I’m far to gentlemanly to say!

Hi Steptoe,, I have the same problem as you said below, I have ordered a reconditioned Bosch unit from Denver,
however, it may not have a pulley, if you have them lying around could I buy a Bosch one off you that has a pulley?
The old one is a Nippon Denso and I believe to pulleys are different. Mike

Hi Mickey G, the pulleys are indeed different, I checked when I had to swap from Denso to Bosch. As it turned out, the Bosch alty/smaller pulley worked perfectly, I fitted a new 'Elast' belt and it was very easy to rebuild due to the Bosch pulley being that little bit smaller. Maybe those who report problems getting the belt back on had Denso altys? I'm positive that BMW ran out of Bosch units, so found the Denso one fitted with the wiring adaptor, as fitted to my bike. Just to recap, I removed the Denso wiring loom extension/adaptor from the bike, and found a Bosch connector. Just removed the Denso bit, fitted the Bosch alty and plugged it in, very easy. :)

?? Erm dont think so,

Tier one's don't have proprietary parts just sitting there, on the off chance an OEM is going to ask for it.

Best one i have heard to date though :roll

What? I don't understand any of that, whats tier one?
I've read this a few times, BMW did actually run out of Bosch units, why else did they fit a Japanese part with a modified wiring extension, to fit a 4 pin connector to a single pin alternator? Because it fits with the wiring mod, thats why!

Well I bought a reconditioned Bosch alternator from Euro Moto Electrics, Denver, Colorado for £325 inc shipping, and only 5 days to get here.
It's fitted but not yet finished, I'm just waiting for the wiring repair kit (as it is called) to suit the Bosch unit.

I'm talking about BMW assembly, not replacement parts. We can't get reconditioned units in the UK as the main fault, as you know, is the alloy casing breaks up, likely due to salt on the roads. Whats the wiring repair kit? Sounds like something we could buy...oh wait: Trumpers Tariffs have killed off that option.

The wiring repair kit (as it is called) is just a 2 wire connector to suit the Bosch alternator, all I have to do now is figure out which colour wire to connect it to, the blue or the green/blue. This because the Bosch unit uses one exciter wire instead of 2 on the Denso alternator.

Anyone know the answer ?

Blue wire. I removed the Denso wiring adaptor and found the Bosch one, it has 2 wires but only one pin in the alty.
The blue wire is the only one thats used, very strange. I thought the RT alty I bought wasn't going to work, but its correct, its working perfectly.
