Hill start

It's not necessary. Learn how to ride properly, and you won't need it. :P :D

It's convenient I'll give it that, but I often forget it's there. It's useful if you have to stop for a while on a slope and need to use both hands for something and want to take away the strain of balancing the bike and holding the rear brake on, but after years of not having it, as I said I usually forget it's there lol

Apparantly Fenland dealers are being told to push this option heavily ;)

Hardly ever use it on my 1200, takes loads of revs to pull away to avoid stalling - apparently the 1250 is better in this respect?

Had it on my rt. like any other control it has its uses. Like the quick shifter I often forget about it. Very handy in certain suitations. JJH

Found the same on my 1200, but think they have updated the software on the 1250, as you don't need to over rev to pull away, just the same as you would normally do and it seems to work a lot better.

When sat at traffic lights etc, with it engaged and in neutral, how smooth selecting 1st gear is

I’m a foot on the back brake, hill start kinda guy.

Me too, but I have to admit the Hill Start on the 1250 is much better than the 1200. Same goes for the cruise control which disengages much more smoothly.

I use the Hill start.
Never tried to pull away with it engaged though. Just pull the lever in again and go.:nenau

Thats one option, you can of course pull away as normal and it should disengage itself. Does need a fair bit of revs though!
