A mate of mine has bought a s/hand 2610 from an esteemed member of this site. I was trying to give hime some basic instructions t'other night and came across this little problem. I deleted the waypoint called 'Home' (from the previous owner) and marked the new point and called it 'Home'. When he went out on the bike to try it, 'Home' took him to the previous owner's house. I've double checked the 'Home' waypoint and it is deffo in the correct place.

Any ideas/anyone had this before?

The 'home' waypoint's a bit special. When set up it allows you find a route home quickly by pressing 'find' twice. It needs to be set up, though and your mate's still remembers its old owner (touching).

Set up a new waypoint by pressing and holding 'menu', the press 'set home waypoint' then press 'find' , then 'waypoints' then select the new Home.

Better instructions can be found in the manual; http://www.garmin.com/manuals/StreetPilot2610GPS_OwnersManual.pdf, pages 30-31.

Also - be aware that if you change display (text) languages on the GPSR, this can cause some confusion respecting the 'home' waypoint, because it is stored with different names depending on the language being used (e.g. Home, Maison, Zu Hause, etc.).

I suggest you just go to the waypoint page of the GPSR and delete the 'Home' waypoint, and also any other waypoints with the same name in different languages. Then re-establish the Home waypoint.

....ahhhhh....all becomes clear now.

Must remember - RTFM :) :thumb

I can actually now remember doing that when I bought my own 2610!

It wouldn't have been so bad, but when he got to the (erroneous) 'Home', there was no-one in to make a cuppa! :)

I hope he didn't live too far from where your mate lives !

How long did he follow the directions for ? :D
