A little story……so 24 years ago in 2001 I purchased my first Honda Blackbird, it was a 1999 model with 12,000 miles on it and it had been accident damaged which is how I got it, the nose cone and one fairing was gone along with the radiator, I managed to get in touch with the previous keeper who had it from new and they confirmed it was a low speed spill, they even sent me the spare key and handbook etc.
I soon replaced the parts and got her running, lavished this bike with love, attention and bling traveling all over Europe as far as Spain twice and even had a lap of the Nurburgring at one point, I never liked the red colour so had her sprayed silver.
In 2004 I went on my usual jaunt to Europe with my mate Geoff on his hayabusa, but unfortunately we ended up falling out and parting ways on the trip, I got back home and thought well that’s the end of my biking abroad for a while, I don’t need a blackibird, I don’t need to be able to keep up with Geoff on his Hayabusa I’ll sell the Blackbird…..so I did and purchased a 1150 GSA. I was still sorry to see it go, she had around 26,000 miles showing at this point, over the years I’ve occasionally looked to see if it was still mot’d and it showed that it was last mot’d in 2009, I presumed it had been written off or scrapped.
So fast forward …. Last year was crap, diagnosed with lung cancer, sold my project 1150GS on here due to this then thanks to chemotherapy and immunotherapy my prognosis totally changed for the better, so I purchased another 1150GS, but it wasnt the same so I decided to sell and hang up my helmet for good.

However,

Last week a notification came up on facebook market place ( I usually ignore these) I clicked on it and it showed a number plate …… no it can’t be!! It’s my old blackbird, advertised as a non runner, it’s not been used for nearly 15 years and the mileage is just over 28,000 miles…..it looks exactly the same….although a bit scabby….it has a dent in the tank, the fuel pump doesn’t prime I imagine all gummed up, but it does turn over and still has the Akrapovic and the power commander and all the other bling I added 😁 the tyres I had put on 20 plus years ago are the same! The guy who purchased it didn’t use it much, had an operation and it was left unused. Well I went to have a look….first time I’ve seen it for nearly 20 years, I gave him a deposit and I’m collecting it on Saturday…. Never thought I’d do another project !!

I even still have the old number plate hanging up,in my garage! The other image is the first image I saw on Facebook marketplace 😲

PS. I made up with Geoff a year or so later and we went on to have a few more trips in Europe and Scotland , sadly he passed away around 2 and half years ago 😢 he’d be as excited as me about this ☺️

Glad you made up with your mate Geoff, sad he passed away a while later

Must be strange to buy back a bike you enjoyed several years before but hope the project goes ok.

More importantly hope your health continues to improve, good luck with everything!!

What a fantastic story. Wishing you good health to enjoy what was my best bike ever. Mine was a 2002 in the faster 😂😂 blue. They really were a fantastic bike. We (my wife and I) toured a good few countries on it. It was a R1200gs that turned my head.

Thanks Tim, this is the bike I had when we used to meet up with the gang years ago 👌🏻

I’ve already got hold of an immaculate silver tank, rear cowl and 2 decent (let’s say better 😊) wheels with tyres 😂 not picking the bike up until Saturday…..just hope I can get her going 🙈😁

What happens on tour stays on tour!!! 😁

It started as a silly drunken argument the night before, but soon escalated 😒 because other people (nothing to do with anyone on UKGSER) who are still with us are involved it has to remain a secret even to this day…. Only one other person knows.

We actually became closer and even better friends afterwards, as I mentioned he would be as excited as me finding this bike 😊

Cracking story, best of luck with continued good health and the restoration

Wishing you all the best with your health Howard, keep us updated with the progress of the Honda (y)

Another 'great story' post from me too. Enjoy the new old bike

Sorry to hear about your mate, but great to see you back on a bird. I check on my original, one now and then. Another thats had hardly any use since I sold it, and my Pan has only done about 500 miles since I sold that 6 years ago. But I wont be buying that back, I still have an 03 plate project one waiting for me to lavish some time on it.

What did you have to do to it to coax it back to life?

What did you have to do to it to coax it back to life?

Took apart the loom and all connectors to clean, sort bad earths, new petrol pump, plugs, battery …. Took out and cleaned, new seals, injectors that were all gummed up.
