Hi

I am thinking about buying a "short trip/fun bike" and decided for a Honda VTR SP-2
I am planning for a inspection/try trip to dealers in Germany, but before spending a couple of days I have a couple things on my mind.

1) I am 193cm tall and about 98kg, will I fit the bike?
2) Any concerns about buying the SP-2, will I be as happy with the SP-1?
3) Quality, any things to be aware of?

Dont worry, my new GS is not going anywhere.... :augie

Any advise are welcome....

.....cant belive that there is no former/present VTR owners here??!!
 
I had no problems with mine (SP-1) except full tank to empty 96 miles!

Did you have any chance to compare your SP-1 with a SP-2?

If today, would you buy a SP-2 or save the money and settle with a SP-1?
We have plenty fuel stations here in Scandinavia..:)

1. No problem

2. Both are OK. I like the SP1 better and they seem to hold their value.

3. Some drink a lot of oil but it is nothing to worry about. You can fill / top-up the oil without removing the fairing. Simply loosen the fairing at the filler plug. Then hold the gap in the fairing open (I used a rolled up newspaper), using a plastic funnel with long spout or a length of plastic tubing.

I put a 4mm spacer on the rear suspension oif my SP1, to lift the bike and dropped the front forks a little. This speeds up the steering. You may then find that your right thumb will hit the tank on hard lock; it is not a problem on the track or on the road.

Some owners put a slightly narrower tyre on the back, which will also speed the steering up.

A Power Commander will sort out the low speed fuelling on the SP1.

Do not add nasty screens, foot pegs, bolts or other tasteless bling.

A great bike, that takes a bit of turning (so counter steer, hard). Once it is set up in the bend it is completely stable......

Will be looking for the right one, SP-1 or 2.....guess I will be willing to pay a tad more for a 2, but at the right price I will not be afraid of buying a SP-1:drool
 
had mine from new for five years.
Best bike I have ever owned.

Better than my GSA :augie

For a evening and weekend bike it is fine, my friend who live longest away from here live 200km roundtrip from here. I guess it might do that on a full tank?!

And besides, just another reason to pull over and see the next fuel station chick....:cool:
