I must be one of the few who had a test ride and didn't buy it. I really wanted to like it, or the TMAX that I also tried, but didn't. I'm not exactly sure what put me off, but I just felt more comfortable riding a conventional bike. Neither scooter lit my fire, whereas the Tiger Sport 800 i bought does that in spades. I haven't been put off entirely and still wouldn't rule one out at some stage, but that's some time away yet.
That’s how I was, I rode a T Max many years ago, along the coast road from Cannes to St Tropez in the sunshine and thought how great it was, then when I got home I realised it was mainly the coast road and sunshine that made it such a good experience. Then a few years ago I test rode an early x adv, and was a bit underwhelmed by it. Spring forward to today and I think it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Maybe it’s an age thing, it has to come to you, though there’s no shortage of younger riders in mainland Europe on them.
Coming from a motocross/off-road background makes them more desirable in my eyes, not that I’d want to do much more than gravel roads nowadays.
Someone won his class in the Gibraltar rally a few years ago.
Zocchi won Class 2 of the 2019 Gibraltar Race riding a specially prepared Honda X-ADV 750, proving the adventure scooter's capabilities. Over 7,000 km, it outmatched traditional adventure bikes in a rally consisting of 14 stages of dirt roads, rocks, and mud. The bike used in the rally, as discussed on ADV Pulse and shown in this YouTube video, featured specialized components.Key Achievement: The X-ADV took 1st in Class 2 and 7th overall in the 2019 Gibraltar Race. The Machine: Zocchi’s scooter featured a full SC-Project exhaust, custom suspension, and was piloted using the stock Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) and G (Gravel) mode.Performance: The bike was noted for its surprising competitiveness in challenging, "off-road" conditions, beating many conventional ADV bikes.Legacy: The victory cemented the X-ADV’s reputation as a legitimate "adventure" scooter rather than just a styling exercise. The 2025 Honda X-ADV continues to feature refined tech and gravel modes, as reviewed on Bennetts, keeping the performance capabilities on target.
