Hotel recommendations in Portsmouth?

I'm taking the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander in June and am looking for a hotel near-ish to the terminal with safe parking for the night before the sailing. Does any one have any recommendations (or places to avoid)?

There is a travel lodge in Kingston Crescent right opposite the ferryport entrance that has parking & with a Police Station 20 yards up the road.

Or there is a Marriot Hotel at junction 12 of the M27 the ferryport is the next exit about a mile away.

When in June are you going? Im going on the 19th. Just stopping at a hotel formule 1 at coventry on saturday night then riding the rest of the way on sunday

The Ibis in the city centre has a gated car park. Rooms are a bit small and the price has crept up. Handy for the pubs & eateries just across the road near Guildhall. Lots of student totty to keep you entertained.

thanks to all who gave suggestions. I booked the Travel Lodge in the end - for just under #50. The ferry sails on the morning of 30th June - unless volcanic ash in the channel delays it.
