A few months ago my subscription ran out but I had awful trouble trying to get back onto gser. to cut a long story short, My son Flipfly fixede it with the administrator and all was well..... except.... at the time we were using my small laptop which I use in front of the telly in the evening. It is connected via a wireless link to the Orange router box. all well so far ... Our other computer , a larger laptop is also connected via the same link and also wirelessly. Now my problem is that the larger laptop will not let me get into gser, or rather says I have to log in. This is of course where I started having problems in the first place, Ive tried all t6he usual passwords to no avail.. I do not understand how one computer works perfectly well and the other freezes me out when using the same internet connection.

Help please and what can I do.

I am doing this on the small lap top by the way, please feel free to tell me I.m thick:blast

so I'm assuming on the wee laptop you log straight onto gser without putting your password in ?

couple of things

1. do you know what your password is ? if your not too sure then log out gser from the wee laptop and then log back in again to check the password.

2. when you log in theres a tick box called "remember me" if you tick this the password is stored on the computer your using, so at some point using the wee laptop this was ticked and the wee laptop remembers so you go straight the forum.

the big laptop may not have Cookies enabled or may have an option to delete Cookies on exit like Firefox does, if this is the case then enable then or remove the delete option

so what explorer are you using

Now this is where I get confused, What the hell are cookies, I usually eat them .

I appreciate the advice guys but I really am at basic stage, (I am an Airhead owner after all).. Anyway I seem to have fixed it by just following the instructions when I admitted that I had lost my password, so all is well.

Thanks for trying to educate a ludite.:blast

Now this is where I get confused, What the hell are cookies, I usually eat them .

an introduction to cookies:

A cookie is a file created by an Internet site to store information on your computer, such as your preferences when visiting that site. For example, if you inquire about a flight schedule at an airline's Web site, the site might create a cookie that contains your itinerary. Or it might only contain a record of the pages you looked at within the site you visited, to help the site customize the view for you the next time you visit.

Cookies can also store personally identifiable information. Personally identifiable information is information that can be used to identify or contact you, such as your name, e-mail address, home or work address, or telephone number. However, a Web site only has access to the personally identifiable information that you provide. For example, a Web site cannot determine your e-mail name unless you provide it. Also, a Web site cannot gain access to other information on your computer.

Once a cookie is saved on your computer, only the Web site that created the cookie can read it.

hence that is why you do not have to enter your password everytime you visit this site - just remember to tick the "remember me" box

it also explains why the missus can see the pron site you visited several months ago

Internet Explorer saves them automatically - you need to set it up to your personal preferences ie block all or allow certain web-sites only
