How many R850GS's on this site?

i,ve got one.

well as it happens i have just perchased a stunning 850gs,13000 miles and even shinnier than verns 6000 mile 1100!!!
i've only done 400 miles on her yet and i'm still getting to know her, compared to my airhead she is a thoroughbread race horse in the lead and unstopable BUT at the moment i still prefer my little plod along airhead.I plan to travel far and wide on the 850 and i know that we will be very happy together too! Apparently a sweeter engine than the 1100 and as i'm only a scrawny gal more than enough grunt to propel me and my kit around.:)

heres a piccy mike. let me know if your out and about in this neck of the woods anytime.

I used to have a R850GS in Silver and Yellow and Loved it. It was a Y-reg and one of the last. Super engine and great finish on all the components, sadly missed :(

Looks a good one you have there, very underestimated bike.

Im sure Stubs will be along soon to reply as he has an 850, as do I.

And a photo, 18999 miles on it

I have one. 94k miles and still going strong, running beautifully after swapping the worn original throttle bodies for 'lightly used' ones. Just done a cosmetic refresh on the engine and front suspension. Off to Jerez on it on Tuesday :thumb2

Although I love my 1150 dearly, I think my 850 was a nicer bike and I regret selling her :comfort. However, I was skint and couldn't afford both

I have a slightly unloved one that parks next to my 1150 each morning. Never seen the owner, but here is one more for your list - out in Switzerland.

Mine is silver and yellow on a W plate. I've had it from new and it's now done about 22k and has a fair amount of Touratech stuff on it. Personally I find it a bit gutless and under-geared. I also have an 1100RS; I much prefer the power and gearing on this. Also it isn't much thirstier as for any given speed it's not working as hard. My 1100 is smoother than my 850 too.

Forgot to mention that mine is a full-power one (70bhp). They were also made in 34bhp versions for learner riders.

Riding mine back to back with my 1150 there was certainly a big difference when you open the throttle but the 850 motor is sweeter somehow than the 1150 - freer revving albeit ultimately weaker. There is a bit too much gear changing in traffic (because of the lower gearing) but conversely that same low gearing means you can leave it in 5th a lot of the time - mine'll pull from 1500rpm in 5th giving it a wide speed range without changing gear.......as long as I'm not in a hurry. But let's face it, if I was in a hurry I probably wouldn't be riding a 220kg bike with 70bhp :D

I get the same number of miles to a tank with the 850 as I did with the 1150 so ditto the same thirst observation but there is a huge gearing difference between 5th on an 850 and overdrive 6th on an 1150!

If your 850 isn't as smooth as your 1100 then I'd say that either your 1100 is exceptional or, more likely, your 850 isn't set up quite right. Probably not run in yet with that low mileage. ;)

Forgot to mention that mine is a full-power one (70bhp). They were also made in 34bhp versions for learner riders.

I've heard a few people suggest that no restricted 850s made it to the UK because they were far too expensive a bike for a new rider to justify, and were also far too heavy to be pulled around by a wheezing 34bhp motor! I doubt there are any restricted ones left anywhere - bet they've all been de-restricted by now.

This is the one i had on a trip to Scotland back in 05, my first GS in fact. Very nice bike and would be quite happy with another any day

Ive got a Red one as well. Seem to be very few red ones around, mostly yellow/silver.

This is mine the day I bought it, no luggage now, as I sold it off in favour of being able to use my givi box's from my Blackbird, not enough room to store all the BMW luggage as well.

I had an 1150 about 5 years ago, but it just wasn't good enough to replace the Bird, and I couldn't afford both, this one was a fraction of the price and in so many ways is so much more fun.

had mine since 2004 and it still puts a mile on my face - its one of the last registered in 2001 and because i knackered my back a couple of years ago it still only has 16k on the clock as i couldnt ride it for some time - not the quickest or most economical in the parish but has real character and is cheap as chips to run and service

This is mine. Great little bike, It's up for sale due to lack of room in the garage, but I wont be too sorry if it doesn't sell.....
