IE problems

Why does IE keep changing my homepage (should be orange) to Google, sometimes uk sometimes Germany?
Have reset in IE-properties but always changes back. Have run ad aware and crap cleaner they dont find anything serious.
Any PC wizards help?

If you have a Google 'toolbar', you may have allowed it to default to Google as the 'home site'...if so, change it in the Google 'preferences'.

Alternatively and if this isn't the case, download HiJackThis from HERE, allow it to do a scan and save a logfile and post the logfile here so someone can analyse it for any 'strangers'.

Ah, right then. The following entries are 'nasties' and should be removed by re-running Hijackthis and selecting the 'remove or fix' option boxes next to them.

Before you do this however, I'd turn off the Windows 'system restore' function first, rerun hijackthis and fix the 'nasties', reboot the 'puter and then turn back on the Windows system restore function again.

These two marked in red are the real 'baddies' and will almost certainly interfere with IE and also collect info about websites visited and are capable of collecting passwords for banking websites etc.

I'd recommend using a good (free ) Antivirus like AVG which would have trapped this crap beforehand.

After removal and before rebooting, do a search for the 2 .dll files identified to see if they're still lurking somewhere else other than the Recycle bin, and if so, manually delete them. Then reboot and reset the system restore as before.


I'll accept the 'cyberpint' gladly if this all works out ok for you.

Got rid of the bottom one but the above will not go (as well as ipv6 application file) despite trying remove on reboot. HJT does not find them now, if I remove them from system 32 folder to recycle bin then empty recycle bin the re appear after a few seconds.
