Hi i own a 2009 1200GS which has just clocked 16000 miles. The service indicator has just come on though I only had it serviced 9 months ago and the service record shows it is not due for another 2000 miles. Is the indicator advisory or should I open my wallet and go and visit Mr BMW, it seems a bit early for a service?

It works on both the date since last service and mileage ridden. Have you done more than 6000 miles since the last service? If not, somebody cocked up last time they reset your service interval reminder. It's just that, a reminder, don't panic.

I've been riding around with my service reminder on for at least the last 6 months.

As it was only an annual inspection that was due, and my weekly checks probably far surpass any money relieving charades by my dealer* I just don't give a toss. When it goes in for its 18000 I will sort it then.

*actually I doubt I will ever go back to my dealer. Much as I rate them, Steptoe of this parish is gonna get it cos he's just up the road. What a stroke of luck.

He will, no doubt, reset these pesky reminders for you :D
