Hello folks,
after an absence of nearly two years whilst i got the KTM 990 Adv out of my system i am about to buy my second 2010 model 1200GS on Sat.
I just have a few questions:

Is the BMW lease scheme worth doing,
Is their any potentila problems / niggles with the new model,
Is their any worth while mods or accessories worth getting in the deal.

Regards Steve.

Let's turn the problem on it's head.

Why not report back to us on Monday after you have gone through with your ordered purchase on Saturday.

You will be able to tell us why you did (or did not) take a lease deal, what bling you blagged.... And whether it's still going.

1) If you've got the cash, it can't be worth it. A profit is made from the lease scheme, so it must cost more.

2) Its a BMW - of course there are problems, but if you've had a GS before I don't think they're going to surprise you.

3) Top Box and Cases are what I've always bought.

1. Yes, if you're strapped for cash and want low monthly payments. But your mileage is capped (9k per year I think?).:blast

2. You know the final drive will explode eventually, so why worry:augie

3. Top box, LED aux lights, twatnav.:thumb

Sorry I can't be of any help on your questions - but I'd be interested to hear what you make of the 1200 vs the 990!

Welcome back Steve, I`m sure you are aware that the panniers are 'free' at the moment, you should be able to negotiate the inclusion of a top box as well and if you can get them to add the back rest too, it will keep the Mrs happy:) john

Was the grass not greener on the orange side?

Genuinely intrigued, as I feel I will have to go there sooner or later?

I can't seem to find inspiration to trade a perfectly good 1200 for a new 1200:confused:

Why are you getting rid of the KTM 990?

Flaky FI probably or maybe needs to take a pillion more often.

Otherwise can't see why you would want to change... :nenau

I had an 08 990 for 10 months but the snatchy/surging throttle below 4k rpm finished it for me. Loved everything else about it so traded it for a nice 06 950 Adv with lovely smooth carbs. :thumb2

Do nearly all of my single riding on this but am lucky enough to have an 06 GSA for two up riding and touring with the Mrs.

She refused to go on the Katoom and I didn't want to lose her... :comfort

Both bikes together cost me less than a new fully loaded GS/GSA. :thumb

I hear the 2010 ones have got rid of the throttle snatch, but haven't ridden one yet.

I'm actually thinking of getting rid of my GSA in a few months time and getting a 990 !

Am on my 3rd GS and keen to try something different, lighter, and also with a 21" front wheel for easier / better off roading. Haven't had the pillion seat & pegs on my bike for over a year so the pillion issues don't bother me.

The 09/10 990's are better but some are still reporting problems with the FI. Check out the KTM UK forum and Orange Crush on Adv Rider for lots of good info.

If you like smiles as well as miles then you just can't beat the big Katoom.

Ditto.

Loved my 04 950 S with carbs but hated 990 with FI so now have an 1150GSA and my 08 950SE with 30 litre tank, luggage,Renazco seat etc.

Both bikes cost less than a new GS/GSA 12 and I prefer the 1150 to the 12-the 950SE is in an even higher league again !!

i could not agree more i bloody loved my 990 and TBH after a few mods the fuelling was pretty good , it was the service costs that was killing me as im doing around 30-40k a year.

the 1150s so easy to work on and parts cheap its low cost motorcycling at its best:D:D:D

that said if i could afford it i would have another 990:)
