A large amount has been said regarding tyre choice and the problems encountered, I have made several enquiries about newly available tyres such as the BT 020 and Michelin Pilot road, a growing number of manufacturers are now supplying in GS sizes, and its worth taking a good hard long look at these. 'Why' you ask, well over the years I have used and sometimes abused every available tyre on the recommended fitment chart with varying success. Here are my findings for your scutiny;

Michelin, are hard wearing but take a long time to break in and drift if abused at lower road temps, Ok in wet if in middle of life.

Dunlop, good all rounders but lack feel and confidence, wear rates are average at best, dodgey when wet!

Bridgestone, suprised me with good grip and confident feedback even when abused, when worn turn real nasty and lacked longevity.

Pirelli, were very sticky, with good grip, drifted gently when pushed, good in wet and didn't square off or wear unevenly until illegal. Nice

Metzeler, If you are a Metzeler fan turn away now, They are fookin S%*&^.
I have ridden bikes for nearly 25 years and never had so many problems with a tyre type before. They offer only average grip and feedback, wear quickly and unevenly, whilst proving difficult to balance at first fit and cause the largest number of unsolicited slow/high speed wobbles & weaves, they also slide horrendously when pushed even when hot!

If you are content to use Metzeler please do so but try the Pirelli Scorpions at least once or better still try the BT 020 and let me know how you got on with them?

Worth while remembering that tyre manufacturers use different compounds for markets throughout the world due to variations in temperature and road construction. What might work well in sunny climates could be dangerous on our roads, worth bearing in mind if you are considering buying cheap tyres from abroad on the internet.

Dunlops ... Been using D607s on my 1200 since I got it. No complaints about handling in wet or dry - except that the front, which has now got nearly 20,000 miles on it, is getting twitchy in the wet. There's loads of tread left but it seems to have worn unevenly. Can't really complain considering the mileage though, am gonna order a new one today.

Rears last me about 5,000 miles.
