Hi
I'm trying to fit some shorter rear indicators (motrax) for luggage purposes. I simply disconnected the spades from the originals and pushed the new ones home at which point they worked, I then taped it all with electrical tape and tied up the excess wiring neatly with cable ties. Went for a ride and every time I wanted to indicate the hazards came on. This morning I swapped the cables round - 1 worked and the other didn't then they all stopped working even the front ones. The bulbs are ok so is the fuse, I thought it might be the relay but the hazards are on a different circuit as far as I can make out.
Any ideas would be gratefully received.

cant really answer other than put a multi meter on the connections,

why buy different indicators, the standard ones are on an extension arm, that you can just remove to shorten them for different luggage???

It's an 1100 and appears to be a solid unit. It's a 96 with 80,000 on the clock and not always had a garage so when I took it off the bolt/sleeve thingy inside was all rusted and just fell out. Anyway I've rechecked and I think it is the relay, but do the new indicators need earthing?
Cheers

No - you have two wires going to each indicator (don't you?), one of which is live (positive, from the relay) and the other the ground (negative).

Thanks
Thats what I thought, guess I'll just buy a new relay and hope for the best.
Cheers

Just seen this thread.I'm in Lincoln and have a spare flasher relay.I dont think these are cheap,so why not try this one to check if thats the problem. It's part no 61.31-2 306 979.Also,are you using the correct wattage bulbs?.ie 12V/21Watt.

Hi Colpan
Yes they're about £60 but I have sourced a secondhand one from Sherlocks for £30. The bulbs are the same 12v/21w, it's a bit of a mystery but I'm hoping I just wired them up the wrong way round. I might, yet, take you up on your generous offer if I blow the new relay.

I was afraid someone might say that :blast.
Confused.com :nenau

Well I rewired the indicators the other way round, fitted the new/second hand relay and everything works fine :thumb2. I shall take her for a spin at the w/e to make sure.
Thanks anyway colban - are you in Lincoln city?
