Any particular recommendations for Inverness hotels for a night exploring the highlands ? I've stayed at the premier inn and the craigmonie hotel a couple of times each so would like to try something new ?

Inverness Palace Hotel is very good, on the river Bank, cross the bridge and city centre (5 mins) 👍

Aviemore has a few options and avoids the city, easy access to Moray coast and the highlands. If we go to a concert or meal in Inverness we stay at the Premier Inn.

The Youth hostel beside the premier inn has always served us well. A few characters about it but a really nice stay if theres a few of you.

Has a swimming pool as well, and convenient for the "sights"

Our friends run the Downright Gabbler in Beauly. There are four very nice self catering double rooms with a fridge, hob etc. If you don't fancy fending for yourself there are plenty of places to eat and there is a Co-Op less than 5 minutes walk. They run special food/drink evenings and the location also means you don't have to tend with the Inverness traffic so you'll be heading straight off on some great roads.

+1 for the Palace, good location, facilities, private parking and they will even park your car for for you if car park on site is full and bring it back when you need it. Central location for the city so no need for taxis or public transport and easy access to main routes out of the city if exploring further afield.
