Its just a bike.

Thanks for letting me off lightly, The GS is a great bike and I cannot think of anything else new which betters it. I think a second bike is needed, something totally opposite such as an Enfield Trials bike, something to fiddle with, ride those 50 mile lazy afternoons yet still roll out the GS for blasts to the Alps or longer local journeys.
I think I'm just a bit pissed at riding these last few weeks, radar traps all over the place, cameras, police, and finally when you get into the dales 100s of bloody cyclists.

Just as I was thinking Yorkshire was a biking Nirvana. Another illusion shattered.

Hi Mark, Paul from Tasmania here.

It is great to put a face to your name.

I once responded with a smart ass comment to a question that you had a while back.
You were so diplomatic in putting me straight, I was embarrassed.
You are a top bloke.

Regards

Fella, don`t be concerned and I certainly didn`t intend to embarrass you.

So, now if you ever see me you can say hi, I`ll be the twat in the hat :D (not that I expect to attend too many meets in Tasmania...............:blast)

Ride safe geezer :thumb2

Couldn't think of a worse bike for the gnarly unclassified back lanes of Yorkshire's National Parks :blast

An old Enfield would be a better bet than a S1000R

That depends on the suspension - if it's compliant and well damped there's no reason why the S1000R wouldn't be a lot of fun on the goat tracks. If it's rock hard like the K1300S with ESA, it'll be very hard on the kidneys/back as I discovered heading into Appletreewick.

I'd agree that if a bike isn't doing anything for you, get rid and buy something to bring the fun back into your leisure time. I had an R850R in 1999 to slow me down a bit and it bored me to tears - I almost stopped riding - but buying my beloved VFR800 restored my love of riding.

I love my GS LC as it's so much fun on every type of road and has enough go to put a smile on my face without being stupidly fast like my old K1200S

It is

Just .......got to know it & where to go ;)

Have a word with the OP, he seems to have got to the dales once and either collided with the Tour de France or been unable to overtake bods on bicycles. I blame the bike.

With all the current cycling fad - I'm using the NY Moors this summer a lot more & the Wolds

Not a T de F wannabe in sight & miles of empty roads, perfect for motorcycling

It's called planning & common sense & knowledge

Avoid the Dales like the plague this summer - because of the T de F or don't use the stage routes

Also avoid the main tourist routes where the camera vans are, there are some minor roads in the Dales where you could easily & safely clock 150 mph on the right bike, for a buzz & never see another vehicle & roads that the camera vans don't get to

Yep, I agree with the OP. I got round it by doing a HUUUGE nostagia purchase. 1st piccy shows me as a yoof (and no, its not Tom Cruise :D) on a 1983 Kwak GPZ1100A1

2nd image is what I purchased (name ya price fella, life is too short, don`t regret the things you do in life, regret the things you DON`T do in life..............) from a chap in Plymouth just a few months ago.

Startling facts, to take into consideration if this is any ones solution be it an older bike:

1. Fekk me, how heavy is it? - Your strength deteriorates with age (personally this has been combined with rampaging osteoarthritis :() so think about this.
2. It handles like a sofa - remember the bikes nowadays are amazing in their capabilities and far exceed ours (or at least mine) and the ones we tooled about on where awful, but at the time brill of course :D.
3. BIGGIE THIS ONE - brakes will not work!!!!!!!!!!! (or no where near what we are used to).
4. Where`s the pegs gone?????? - when I first rode the GPZ a few months ago I actually looked to see if someone had knicked the pegs coz I couldn`t find them. Actually I just couldn`t get my legs up high enough.
5. Touring, mmmmmmm - I used to go to wales and back and think `wow` ready for a beer - I went to Barton Bike night recently and thought `wow, I`m ready for A&E :bounce1 bugger, it was painful.

I think my GPZ is wonderful, weapons grade eye candy (its as clean as Nutz bike) I love it to bits but don`t get rose colored glasses - things change, mostly we do!

and just in case anyone thought I was capable of rational thought.............

Nice reply, I too had a GPZ back in 85 and thought it was great, having ridden a similar old bike my thoughts are how the hell did we get those things round corners so fast, and how are we still here.
I would still love to have one of my old bikes back though the one I took my test on Kawasaki KE175 1981 model.

PS I love my new GSA Terry

Here's me at 19 on my KE lol

For the first time ever (in over 40 years) I opened the garage door, looked at the bike and though "Not today"
Ok Im not a youngster any more but motorcycling is still my reason to work and main hobby. The bike is very good at every thing. I have had no major problems with it but------ I do not feel attached to it. Its almost a bit dull.
I never ride over 100mph. I don't rev past 5000rpm, I don't deck the rocker boxes, I don't pull stoppies. The bike is way beyond my riding requirements.
I have alternated between love/hate on this machine, its just so dull the the back roads I ride 95% of the time.

After looking at a classic bike outing I saw six or seven bikes which I know would bring a smile to my face.
Anybody with a TR5 Adventre spare please contact me.

OK its not the bike to tour Europe on but seeing the number of riders taking the Annual or 6000m service the GS1200 is not used for high mileage by many owners.

Is your age a factor ? Maybe you have got bored with motorcycling in general ? Have you considered a Sports car ?

Sooty, no dis-rezpek, but do you ride on main roads all the time?

You say you are pissed with police, radars etc etc? The main roads that power rangers use lots will be more heavily policed than the nicer, proper, faster, biker roads off the main routes. You see thats where they speed, kill themselves and others and then speed more.

And national speed limits don't prevent you from getting epic corner speed on most tight twisties.

I just had a blast last month riding through Derbyshire, South Yorks, North Yorks, Lake District and back. Fast and fun, no power rangers - they were on the main roads following the flock. Our group of 3 meanwhile were having one of the best rides in a long long time.

Maybe just explore more mate?

As I say, no disrespect intended - or maybe you are just getting bored of it? My old man did, after riding his entire life and suddenly had enough. He doesn't regret it at all, he did all he wanted to do.

I have been out with Sooty a few times and can categorically say that he is a master of the back roads
We went to Whitby from York not long ago and hardly saw tarmac
