I've just bought a new Adventure

Verns panniers are next on my list...
You may like to try the "Limited edition" Jools Holland model he makes - see the thread "Best live band" in the Music forum. :D

You'll get away with the 25mm risers without changing the hoses. They can be a bit tight on full lock right. The 35mm risers definitely need longer hoses but I was changing mine to braided anyway.

I put the TT 35mm risers on still with the original hoses/cables on my 1150. Ive had no probs with regard to the hoses being too short. There not as much freeplay as I would like but theres enough none the less.

Having just fitted clipons to my GS, I have short 3" lengths of cables and hoses to sell to the people who have fitted risers. Just tape them on to your existing hoses etc. With a bit of luck someone will believe me and take me up on this offer and try it. Then we may get rid of the people who seem to be incapable of doing anything to their bikes without reassurance and guidance on any simple task.

How altruistic of you to take on the task of getting rid of members of this forum. Who asked you to do that?

OUCH! I suppose thats me off the chrismas card list then. Sorry if I upset anyone.

I'll still give you reassurance and guidance with your
little problems :tears

Aren't there special clinics for that sort of thing ?

Just got me knobblies. Put 'em on meself but I don't recommend it -it's a right pain in the arse. Something I've always wanted to do though, so now I have the T-shirt. The worst bit is actually getting the fekkin original tyres off!

Anyway, here are a few piccies for ya. These are the old tyres with my new knobblies ( TKC 80s' ) in between them

After

The knobbies feel a wee bit different at the mo' but I'm slowly getting used to them. If I do decide to go back to the standard tyres, I will be straight down to a tyre dealer for fitting. Bugger that fitting them meself I thinks...

You can improve the back braking immensely by decreasing the pedal travel and freeplay. It's an easy adjustment. The back brake feels so ineffective because the low height of the pedal itself and the long travel make it feel ineffective.

Adjust (1) to lengthen the pin and check (A) to make sure you're not permanently activating the rear stop light.

Simon

I was planning to do the same thing with my R1100GS but was advised by Prestige not to as others had done so with dire consequences-new disc etc. I advise checking it out first as the effects of the adjustment may not be be as obvious as they might initially seem !

Blimey, I forgot I posted this post.

In reference to the above, adjusting the rear brake, it has made a huge difference. It is far easier to apply the brake since adjusting it and since doing the adjustment, I have had no problems with it. The rear caliper does seem to bind on the rear disc slightly, but I think all 1150 GS rear calipers bind a little.

Here's what I've done on my bike since getting it in February 03:

Y-piece fitted
Cat code plug (yellow) removed and throttle sensor reset ( several times now )
Techlusion 1030 fuel injection manager fitted ( settings for Techlusion are 3, 4, 5 ,8 )
Lamda probe taken out
1" Handlebar risers fitted
New gel seat
Malkys' wide tails fitted
Verns panniers fitted
TKC 80s' fitted
Halfords spotlights fitted
Throttle bodies balanced
Red line shockproof oil put in gearbox/final drive
Sheepskin seatcover
Rear mini mudguard removed
2 Extra accessory sockets fitted for heated clothing
Mini rear indicators
Clear indicator lenses and orange bulbs fitted to the front indicators
Removed the rubber from the footpegs
6000 mile service
And probably some other stuff that I've forgotten about...

The speedo is on 7000 miles and I'm still enjoying the bike more than ever. The only problem I've had so far, is that one of the jubilee clips attaching the plastic air intake tube to the metal throttle body came loose during a serious green laning session. The bike ran extremely "lumpy" and surged seriously until I figured out what was wrong. I tightened all the jubilee clips and hey presto - right as rain.

All in all I've owned about 43 bikes and this Adventure is definately in my top 2 bikes. I can see me keeping it for many years to come.

I originally visited Prestige to look at a 2nd hand 2002 silver GS with 5000 miles on the clock that they were advertising for £6.5K. It was sold when I got there but they had another 2000 Y reg 20 000 mile one up for sale at exactly the same price. I asked why this one was the same price as it had a higher mileage and was 2 years older and they told me that they had made a mistake and underpriced the other one. Apparantly it shot out their door, so they increased the price of this one.

Hmmm. A BM dealer that doesn't know the value of a used GS? How rare is that? And where can I find one?? ;~))
