Greetings all

I managed to get hold of a 2610 courtesy of a fellow pipe n slippers club member. :rob Problem is the owner may not have the original discs, codes etc due to house moves etc. It is a genuine sale tho' nothing dodgy.

The unit only has UK maps on it at the moment. I don't have mapsource on my PC.

Bearing in mind that I'm a complete numpty with this stuff, how do I get newer maps on the unit? I do know that Garmin don't support the 2610 any more.

I think that the latest mapset you can get for a 2610 is City Navigator Europe v9 - which came out in 2006.

The only map for the 2610 you can now get from Garmin is the low-spec WorldMap.

You need to get hold of the disks for the maping that's on there.

Or use OpenStreetMap which is current. Coverage is getting better and in some places is better that the Garmin mapping. Accuracy of the data in terms of traffic direction has been called into question once (wrong way round roundabout) in my use of NavFree which uses OpenStreetMap mapping data as well as, on another occasion, not allowing a right turn when one was available. i.e. nothing that a bit of common sense can't cope with.

You'll need to install Mapsource the doggy way. Nothing really illegal, as such, about doing this AFAIK.

Thanks. I had a go with Openstreetmap but the downloads seem to stop before they;re complete. May be my internet. I'll have a look at the other option.

Take it you mean the dodgy way?

So if I download this will I be able to set up routes on my laptop and then transfer them to the 2610? Or do I have to do summat to the 2610 as well?

Errr... yes :blush

The OpenStreetMap system provides both a Windows installer so you can install the mapping on your laptop/PC for use in Mapsouce and also a GMAPSUPP.IMG file to load directly onto your Garmin GPS.

You can just install to Mapsource and then use that to write the GMAPSUPP.IMG file if you so wish.

No unlock codes or anything like that.

Sorry. I'm having probs with downloading openstreetmap. I meant the "dodgy" (or doggy if you prefer :augie) download of Mapsource from Garmin.

OK. Trying to download the openmapsource software and finally got the full 958 mb downloaded. When I try to open it ...

NSIS Error
Installer integrity check has failed

Aaaargh!:bash

Any thoughts out there?

Oh dear, seems like it's corrupted somehow. From the wording of your post I can only assume that you had issues during the download process. All I can suggest is try downloading again... Either that or sit tight and await help from Schtum.
