Just had my 600 mile service 2015 GS1200 TE

My 600 mile was free

6,000 mile £129.43

12,000 due first week Dec will let you all know.

Not moaning just informing !!

My 6k was just under £200, but with a couple of extra bit's I asked them to do as well included.

Funny how folks spunk 10k- 15k on a bike, forget about depreciation and total cost of ownership and whinge about servicing costs.

I didn't spunk the money my old mate. I saved for 4 years to buy the bike. I'm not in the privileged few bracket who change their bikes every two years or when a new model comes out. I will ride the bike all through winter as I don't have the luxury of a garage full of bikes. I also don't give a toss about depreciation as I will be the owner of the bike for a good few years before I chop her in for my next bike.

Don't worry, I will enjoy my steed :beerjug:

Not just service, it's everything. I see no reason not to minimize the cost of ownership wherever possible. It only makes sense to ask for a little discount off purchase price, use generic oil and filters (that meet all specs) instead of branded BMW consumables, comparing labour rates between dealers or avoid paying expensive labor all together by doing all servicing that you're capable of. And when it comes time to sell, sell it at the highest price you can.

Your case is precisely my point. Work out your total cost per mile when you have sold the bike and most will be down to depreciation and fuel. Servicing will be a tiny part of TCO. Odd how you say you don't give a toss about depreciation yet you are worried about service costs. Lol.

Who in their right mind wants to pay over the odds for something.

More trolling/stupidity, thats some talent youve got there.:thumb2

Laugh out loud... Yep, you got that straight.

I think with such expensive bikes that everything comes into sharp focus regarding overall cost. However for most of us this is a leisure activity very much worth it. I have a couple of bikes and do not think about the cost as I can afford it. Just bought an m4. If I thought about the depreciation costs I would be sick!!

Yep damn near £700 service on my Beemer car! Bike seems better value to me. £100.00 1st service. Clever smart wife negotiated a service plan to 50k or five years on her wheels. some of you guys are a step ahead of me. Next time I will get tough when negotiating honest!

There are already dealers offering BIG discounts on the new M4. That should take the sting out of the purchase.:thumb I looked at one, and Sytner were just over £50k for a fully loaded one.

Always the same with cars though- so why anyone would harp on about depreciation on bikes is beyond me. Bikes have 5 X the enjoyment factor of any car.

Just come over to GS forum from triumph Trophy forum and I can see the point of this topic Beemer Bob (pity someone always has to have a go ) I was quoted £360 from northwest triumph dealer for a 2 year 10k service , rang 3 other dealers who all quoted about £250 , thus saving me and a few other owners over £100 ,
If your dealer is dear post it and help others , it amazes me the difference in price from one dealer to another for the same job and I (unlike those who have more money than sense)
will read forums and take notice not the piss

Keep up the good posts

Fixed price servicing for UKGSER members, at several dealers would be a good idea.:thumb

Thanks for your encouraging words. :beerjug:
For me, it was never about the money. I just couldn't get my head round the fact that an oil/filter change came to £170. I fully understand that the dealer must make a living, but IMHO that's just taking the piss.

UKGSER dealer discount sounds like a winner!
Will it happen? I doubt it, but we live in hope.

Cheers,
Bob

On a lighter note.

The London Air Ambulance landed in my park (place of work - not pleasure!) today to attend a road traffic accident. It turned out that their services were not needed. So, seizing on an opportunity, I asked them to take an aerial picture of 'Lest We Forget' that I had cut out in huge letters earlier in the year... Well, they made good their promise!
SUPERB!!! My Tribute to the fallen laid out for all to see! It doesn't get any better than that.

I pegged out two parallel lines of string, paced out each letter and just eyeballed it! I had no idea it would look as neat as it does... Brill!
