Kicking in the doors at München

There's a pretty impressive wall of bikes in this place- four stories high and tracing the lineage of BUUM bikes- not all the models are there of course or they'd need a tower block to display them all, but it seems they've tried to display all of the important changes and major steps in the development of their bikes throughout the centuries.....it works pretty well acually.

Bit of a cock-up on the camera front I'm afraid.....without the back display showing what the heck I was doing, I couldn't tell if the flash was goingto go off, if all I was going to get was reflections of me in the windows (now that wouldn't make for a very good thread would it :blast) or how much of each bike I was actually capturing......

Some came out reasonably well though and it was an interesting walk, following the history through from 1478 to today :)

Because of my extensive and encyclopaedic knowledge of old BUUM motorcycles, I can definitively and confidently say that this fine specimen is an R39.

(You can tell 'cos of the droopy handlebars if you really want to know ;)

It's also, oddly enough, the same model that Proff used to ride before he was evacuated in the Crimean war and sent to live with Mrs Miggins in the Dudlaaaaay treacle mine canteen.

Now this one I really do like......though I have no idea why :nenau

There are some contraptions in the wall to make that odd boy Tarquin perk up as well......
This one's quite advanced for it's age- you can see the radar turret on top of the tank that guided the rear mounted SAM missiles :)

When the bloke was gluing this one to the wall, he underestimated its weight and dropped it, sadly breaking the engine clean in two.

Being an efficient and devious German though, he just turned what wasleft of the engine on its side and glued it all back on- to this day, nobody has noticed!

Perhaps I should say, in all humility here, that if I'm losing anyone with my technical terms and accurate descriptions, anarak stylee, of all these bikes, I'm prepared to try and dumb it down a bit so those of you with lesser knowledge of motorcycles and their history can keep up with me :)

I'm nice like that :thumb2

I can see what you mean, it does stand out a fair bit, looks low and fast and the frame looks really good. looks like it's had its engine glued on wrong too though :(

btw, cameres and sporadic flash... you should have stuck some of the duck tape over the flash rather than leaving it all on the lid of your pannier - that would have been the MacGyver way ;)

This is a bit of a sad photograph, and underneath the bike is a little plaque in tribute to the man who built it, Herr Pannieren Von Toosmallen, who committed suicide when he saw a pair of Vernatechs and realised how totally out of his league he was. :tears

Move along now, nothing to see here......
I'm sure these two are important somehow to someone, but sorry, booooooring!!!

No idea what the padded seat like thing on this bike's tank is all about- Shirley they didn't design this for riding three up?
Maybe it's a schitzel sandwich box :nenau
I bet it sounded nice though- just look at thos 'zorsts!!

A sneaky peeky view back down the walkway to the wall........there are a lot of these walkways, going back and forwards to it and making you walk miles to get to see what you want- The building itself isn't that enormous, it just feels like it when you have to plod up and down the glass and steel tunnels :blast

But if you persevere, you can get back to the bits you want to see :thumb2

Note the gaps- these were left when (according to the guide) an old gentleman who smelt vaguely of cider and wee arrived one day back in 1954.

Apparently he said he was taking the two bikes off to be cleaned- nobody believed him but his lovely wife made a large pot of tea and was much too nice to be involved in anything dodgy so they let him take the bikes off on his trailer, never to be seen again :nenau

Even today, the guides mutter about "Das wackliger Kasten" if you ask them what happened :blast

I've got a feeling that none of these bikes have ever been used- I suspect that they are 'out of the box' preserved machines and so in theory should be exactly as original- I can just see the airhead anoraks standing for hours in total awe that in fact the late 1984 version of the G stroke (NOT HYPHEN YOU IDIOT!) S paramonosprung bike had a mudguard that was fitted with bevelled headed screws rather than hex bolts just behind the gearbox flange as Rob and Kenny had always insisted on

I'm sure you can still see couriers smoking their way around Liverpool street station on these things

I particularly like the way they've hidden the battery away so discretely :D

OOoooooooo ooo ooo me sir me sir!!!!

I know what this is!!! :D

This is apparently what they're supposed to look like, the definitive version, the reference point......:augie

Some hardcore pron for Tarka....look Steve, you can see its bare nekked arse!!!

Chances are that if you're of a certain age, you'll have had one of the following two images on your bedroom wall when you were a spotty oik :drool

tennis-girl-scratching-her-bum-73689.jpg

or a poster of one of these......

363153463_WfMv5-XL.jpg

I'm not quite sure what each one says about you, maybe that's a good subject for a poll and we can see how people have turned out :rob:thumb

Another angle on the K1....it's worth it IMO :thumb2

Most of the bikes in the wall are bog-standard, but they have included some service-spec versions to make things a bit more interesting (and perhaps to show the ideal application for otherwise slightly boring bikes? :augie)

363154762_VmPzE-XL.jpg

I rode a blue one of these under a truck once.

It wasn't a very sensible thing to do, but you know how bored you can get sometimes?? :blast

The bike came off worse than I did......written off and only on TPF&T :tears
I had a broken rib, snapped the tip of a finger and generally got severely roughed up....A pretty lucky escape though and I still have the helmet I was wearing at the time, complete with a scrape of blue paint from the side of the truck.

Listen to your uncle Billy children....don't ride your motorcycle under trucks...it's not big and it's certainly not clever :nono

There are a couple of sports bikes in the bottom right hand corner of the wall but bizarrely enough, considering that it's their best selling bike, there are no 120GS's.

I wonder if they're embarrassed :hide

Anyway, out of the wall hall and into the car section again- there is some nice machinery here too and well worth a visit if you like racing machines.

Don't worry, there are some more bikes coming up soon, just let me get round the next hall first ;)

The lady trying to peel one off slyly to the left of the car obviously didn't agree with me, but I reckon this is probably the nicest car BUUM have ever produced- it's gorgeous :drool
