Yes - it runs the timing on the verge of detonation all the time. This ensures maximum eficiency and means that it can take advantage of the latest 'super-fuels' which can withstand more advance (and hence offer either more power, or better economy). My own 'seat-of-the-pants' trials (and careful mpg monitoring) suggest that BP Ultimate and Total Excellium are both quite good, and both Shell and Texaco fall somewhat short or the mark.
