Thinking of a 950 or 990 KTM Adventure. Have come from an 1150 GS. The GS was very stable for me on motorways/sidewinds. Is the KTM any good at this?

i dont think so

went across a complete lane just over a week ago on a 990i, they are a bit slab sided, and it was a VERY WINDY DAY. May be better it i ate more pies. Dont let it put you off! it`s still a great bike. :thumb

Not as stable as an 1150GS, no. However, I did find that tweaking the suspension to the 'Sport' settings from the owners manual helped by giving more feedback on what the front end was doing. As well as generally better for road riding in the dry, this has made riding in wet and windy conditions a little less :yikes

The KTM has a bit of a weave set in with panniers above about 110.

It's ok below that, but the GSA12 is MUCH more stable

I don't find mine worryingly wobbly, but I never do 110 mph either :)

A smaller front wheel might well make the bike a bit more "positive", if you are only using it on the road. They are "slab sided" though as Nick says and will always catch sidewinds to some extent.

It's fine, stop thinking so much and just buy one :D

Test riding a 990 and a 950 tomorrow. Very excited :nige

Haven't felt like this since my mum promised me 'Striker' for my 9th birthday.

Seconded - alternatively could try a fully laden Pan European if you want to be completely impervious to cross wind ;)

Seriously though, if you are really concerned and I can't say I've noticed a problem in my relatively short period of ownership, there are a few threads on Orange Crush where people who have had problems have cut a few inches off their screens to good effect

I stopped fannying around and got myself a 950 Adventure S :thumb2

Lovely bike. Nice to have a throttle that is so light and doesn't need 2 handfulls like my old 1150GS

I find it more confidence inspiring in the twisties than the 1150 but that might just be a new bike/honeymoon thing.

Oh and yes, fine on the motorways. Very stable in cross-winds and no worries with the screen for me, but then I'm only 5'8.

Time to get some Akros fitted :green gri

I loved my Beemer but it's nice to try something different. Life's too short and there's probably not much petrol left.
