Bin struggling with the latches on these boxes, thought I had a good deal when the dealer included them free when i bought my 1290sa, clearly he thought it was better for him for me to take them to the recycling centre than for himto have to pay to do it!
I think I have stumbled on a solution to sticking latches...
Here is what i posted on the adv rider forum, maybe it will help
"Have had problems with the latches, tried silicone spry etc etc, the damn things driving me nuts...to the point of being about to take them back to dealer. Higlight was one pannier that had 1 latch that refused to latch closed, on a ferry with the docker trying to get the bike tied down!! 15 mins in high humidity and 90c does not make rational decision making easy, so I hit the thing as hard as I could and thankfully it closed!
Bacxk home and just before returning them I thought I would see if they could be adjusted, having seen the KTM pdf about the latches on the forum.
I was going to try and move the lock forward on the lid to try and get it into the right position but it appears the two screws inside the lids can be slackened off slightly, this has the effect of allowing the forward profile of the latch to "drop" nearer to the locking mechanism in the main body of the box. The latches now work beautifully, no slamming, no jamming, no having to push down on them just close the lid, and with a gentle "push" on the lid both latches "click" and Lo! the box is shut!
So, tightening the 2 crews appears to distort the lid enough to stop the latches working properly, just backing them off a bit relives the distortion and they work!!!!
I will have to monitor the screws to ensure they dont work completely loose but it looks to me like this has sorted my only negative about the bike.................."
